A lack of moisturization increases the chances of getting ingrown hair in the weeks following a wax session. Natural ingredients are important in all skincare products and they are especially essential for post-wax moisturization.
One of the best secrets to beautiful and healthy glowing skin after a wax is to moisturize your skin after each shower. This can hydrate your skin and will definitely make it easier for you to enjoy the glow that you want after waxing and exfoliating it.
Additionally, waxing dry skin can lead to breakage in the wax which can be painful when it comes to removal. Dry skin is usually genetic, however, other environmental factors can lead to temporary dryness as well. For our Nova Babes that are out west, like Liz herself, you know the Summer can be exceptionally dry!
Now, while your pores don't technically open or close, they are left somewhat expanded for the first 24 hours after waxing, making them more vulnerable to ingrown hairs (ouch) and breakouts (no thank you).
Directly after waxing your hair follicle is left open. This makes it susceptible hot water entering the open hair follicle during a shower or bath. This will irritate the area and create discomfort. Once your follicles close you can return to your normal bathing routine.
Waxing can seem like a fantastic way to get rid of unwanted body hair, but as with a lot of beauty treatments, it does have its downsides. One of the side effects of waxing is the risk of burn, which can occur if the wax applied to the skin is too hot, causing a great deal of pain and unsightly blemishing.
Always wait two hours post-wax before taking a shower. Use lukewarm water. Don't exfoliate after waxing. Your skin will be hypersensitive for the first 48 hours.
Depending on what part of your body you're waxing — as well as your pre- and post-wax care — you'll have smooth, hair-free skin for at least two to three weeks after your waxing services.
Exfoliate Gently: After the initial 48-hour healing period, gently exfoliate the area with a mild scrub to prevent clogged pores and ingrown hairs. Avoid harsh scrubs; opt for gentle exfoliants that won't irritate the sensitive skin in the bikini area.
This is very rare, however if you do get white dots this is only your body's defense mechanism reacting to the hair follicle being removed. This is normal and should subside in a day or so. This actually means your hair has been removed directly from the root (a good thing).
Waxing can be rough on the skin, causing redness and irritation as it heals. Your skin might also be more prone to infections and, occasionally, bleeding, especially in areas with existing damage. If bleeding persists, consult a doctor.
You don't need to have a special shower; a regular one will do. However, try not to shower immediately before waxing. Take your shower a couple of hours or at least half an hour before the waxing appointment. This will give your skin time to dry completely and help your body temperature to get normalized.
Massage a very gentle, soothing balm into the area. We recommend QB Skincare's Balm or Naked Balm, you can even use a chemical free diaper cream for relief. Apply a cool compress to the area and if necessary take an Advil or Motrin. Keep tight clothing off of the skin and do not use soaps.
Moisturize well on the days leading up to your appointment. Healthy, well-moisturized skin allows the wax to release more easily.
REMOVE HARD WAX FROM SKIN USING OIL:
This will make it easier to remove and will also help to prevent any unnecessary irritation or discomfort. To soften the wax, use a soft cloth or cotton pad to apply a small amount of your favorite pre/post oil such as BeeSmooth, baby oil, or coconut oil to the affected area.
Keep the waxed area clean, and avoid heat and friction during the next 24 - 48 hours. This means: No hot baths or showers (cool to lukewarm water only). No saunas, hot tubs, massage or steam treatments.
DON'TS: THE FIRST 24 HOURS AFTER YOUR WAX:
Don't swim. Don't wear tight or non-breathing clothes to avoid infection: waxed skin needs air. Avoid perfumed products on the waxed skin. Avoid touching the waxed skin: the empty follicles are easily infected by bacteria and need some time to settle down and close.
If earwax buildup continues, you may need to visit your health care provider once or twice a year for regular cleaning. Your health care provider may also recommend that you use earwax-softening agents such as saline, mineral oil or olive oil. This helps loosen the wax so that it can leave the ear more easily.
The short answer is no, not permanently. While waxing doesn't permanently reduce hair growth, it does have some indirect effects on the appearance and texture of regrowth over time.
Some people may notice a significant reduction in hair growth after six months to a year of regular waxing, while others may take longer. Patience and consistency are key when it comes to seeing the long-term benefits of waxing.
What are the most painful areas to have waxed? Brazilian, upper lip, chest (not areolas), the sides of your abdomen, hairline. That being said, your first time trying waxing as your hair removal method in almost any area is not going to be pleasant.
Removing hair by shaving, waxing or tweezing can cause ingrown hairs. New hairs grow from hair follicles under your skin. Shaving, waxing and tweezing only remove hair strands — they don't remove hair follicles. When new hair grows, it may curl back and enter your skin.
3) Don't use perfumed products for 24 hours
One of the most important things is not using perfumed products for 24 hours before and after waxing. This includes items like body sprays, deodorants, scrubs, and self-tanner as these can irritate your open underarm hair follicles.
Plucking the hair out with a tweezer is much more practical, allowing more precision and taking the hair from the root rather than leaving a blunt end. Clients can do the same if they find new hairs after a wax, but it's best to leave these hairs alone after the fourth day following treatment.
Wipe down the area
I keep fragrance-free baby wipes in the waxing room for multiple reasons but a big one is so that when you are done with your wax you can wipe down any area that was waxed.
