When you have an oily complexion, using a makeup primer helps everything stay put, says Los Angeles-based makeup artist Emily Kate Warren. You should at least prime oiliest areas (think: the T-Zone -- forehead, nose, and chin) with an oil-free, anti-shine primer.
A BB cream works well as a primer for a heavier foundation. You can also use it just by itself –– depending on the formula, it often has the ability to control shine, making it apt for people with oily skin.

This double-duty cream is known to address acne, wrinkles, lines, and rosacea as well - these conditions, though, only seek fleeting shelter under foundations. BB creams don't provide the same level of coverage as foundations.
BB cream, sometimes called beauty cream or beauty balm, is an all-in-one product that can be used as a moisturizer, primer, foundation and sunblock.
While it isn't necessary to use primer if you're also using BB cream, if you want to use both, always apply primer before BB cream. Since BB cream is tinted to match your skin color, it should go on top of the primer.
