People with hollow cheeks usually have a small amount of fat in their face and an overall low body fat. They also often have a well-defined jaw and cheeks. You can't change the shape of your bones without surgery, but you may be able to decrease the amount of fat in your face.
Round cheeks (round face)
“There is usually a loss of volume and definition from the cheeks, which leads to a hollow and tired-looking face,” Dr Raj said.
Sunken cheeks are most commonly associated with ageing. Over time, you start to lose fat volume within the face. You develop sunken cheeks when there is limited tissue between the mandible and the zygoma. This is the bony arch located underneath the eye.
You can develop hollow cheeks by reducing the body fat you carry, properly chewing and swallowing food, and mewing. Surgery to reduce the buccal fat pad or dermal fillers are two of the more invasive methods that can be used to achieve hollow cheeks.
Genetics are mostly responsible; as our genes dictate where subcutaneous fat is stored, your cheeks can carry little to no fat, creating a hollow or sunken look.
As we get older, collagen, elastin, and even facial fat pads break down, resulting in some changes that can cause the appearance of a sunken face. The effect is even more pronounced when the fat pads begin to drift south, which can exacerbate sunken cheeks and undereye hollows.
First, a simple rule: Adding a shadow makes a feature recede and adding a highlight brings it forward. So, to create the look of fuller cheeks, try a bright blush colour or a luminous foundation, both of which will have a highlighting effect. With blush, steer clear of dark shades; vivid pinks and peaches work best.
Soft tissue fillers and hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvéderm, Restylane, and Radiesse are probably the most common options for treating hollowed cheeks. These treatments are injected directly into the mid-face or hollowed section to volumize the cheek (malar) area.
"A strong jawline usually means you have a square or rectangle face shape. If your jawline comes to a point then you have a heart-shaped face," Oquendo said. Finally, check out the length of your face. Rounder faces are typically on the shorter side and oval faces are usually on the longer side.
Round faces tend to age very well compared to other face shapes due to the fact they store a lot of fat in the cheek area. This can keep you looking younger for longer than those who lose fat quicker. This means that a gaunt and dull complexion takes longer to develop.
But cheek`s shapes do vary: High cheekbones is a trait for people of Central- and Eastern Europe, Asian Women do show wider mandibles.
If your cheekbone is at the lower part of your nose, you have low cheekbones. If it's directly underneath your eyes, close to where the bridge of your nose begins, you have high cheekbones.
Chewing gum does not reduce face fat.
It is a popularised myth that chewing gum reduces face fat. The simple fact is that you cannot reduce fat from one spot. Chewing gum can give your facial muscles a good workout but isn't effective in reducing face fat.
The natural layer of fat in the face becomes thinner over time, and gravity pulls skin downward toward the jaw and neck. Softened fat and sagging skin lead to the appearance of hollowed cheeks and noticeable cheekbones. Aging can also lead to bone loss in other areas of the face, like the nose and cheeks.
Most people begin to notice a shift in the appearance of their face around their 40's and 50's, with some also noticing a change in their 30's. But with these physical changes brought on by aging also comes a change in the appearance of our face - Luckily, there is treatment available.
That's depends only and only on your genetics. Some people got sharp jaw line and cheekbones even at high body fat percentage ( 15%). But for some it's not achievable even at 5% body fat.
Genes related to attractiveness differ by sex
Several genes were identified across individuals that were measured as "attractive", and, interestingly, these genes differed across the sexes. In women, specific genetic variants associated with beauty were also related to genes impacting body mass.
A gaunt face refers to a face that appears thin and bony. The term is usually used to describe the face of someone who looks sick, malnourished, or unhealthy.
Ancestry and Genetic Admixture
Ancestry and physical appearance are highly related; it is often possible to infer an individual's recent ancestry based on physically observable features such as facial structure and skin color.
A width ratio of the lower jaw in relation to the cheekbone of 75 percent is considered most attractive in women (Wu TY, et al., 2020, J Chin Med Assoc). High cheekbones in relation to the lower half of the face are attractive in both women and men.
Diamond Face Shape
Typically, cheekbones are high and strong, and the distance between them is slightly wider than the forehead length. The chin is also more narrow and pointed, and the hairline tends to come to a more angular point.
Loss of muscle tone and thinning skin gives the face a flabby or drooping appearance. In some people, sagging jowls may create the look of a double chin. Your skin also dries out and the underlying layer of fat shrinks so that your face no longer has a plump, smooth surface.
Naturally dry skin is likely to age faster because the drier the outer skin layers, the less pliable they are.
