When you're talking hair color, it's important to understand the language of levels—because “level 4” means the same thing as “medium brown hair” and “level 7” means the same thing as “medium blonde hair” making it lot less vague when selecting a shade. (And nobody wants vague when it comes to hair color.)
The level system is made up of 10 numbers which help determine the depth level of your natural hair. 1 is black, 5 is light brown, 6 is dark blonde, 7 is blonde and 10 is the lightest blonde.
These levels are used to describe how dark or light your hair color is. Level 10 is the lightest blond, level 9 is light blond, level 8 is medium blond, level 7 is dark blond, level 6 is light brown, level 5 is medium brown, level 4 is dark brown, level 3 is darkest brown, level 2 is black-brown, and level 1 is black.
what i mean by this is that a level 6 is called a “dark blonde” in the hairdressing world but it looks brown to the average person. a level 7 is when it starts to look like it belongs in the blonde family! from a level to 7 to 8 the hair will look like noticeably blonder.
Purple shampoo is most effective on hair that is dyed to a level 7 or lighter, which typically exhibits underlying yellow pigments. It's designed to counteract these brassy or yellow tones, making it perfect for blonde or light-colored hair.
To do this you want to use products with a blue base pigment that are dark enough to really cover and cancel out the orange. Above I recommended the Wella 7a or 8A with a mix of the Wella 050 Toner and that is definitely the way to make orange hair ash brown.
This numbering system is called the International Colour Code (the ICC), and it's used throughout the hair industry around the world. Among those ten key depths, ranging from 1.0 for Black all the way to 10.0 for Pale Blonde, is 7.0, which represents Medium Blonde.
Blending Colour Levels:
If you have tried colouring with a dark blonde level 7 and you want just a little bit more depth, a blend of Genoa Light Brown 6 and Napoli Dark Blonde 7 will give you a base colour level which is half a level deeper than a level 7 colour alone.
The key to fixing orange hair is usually to neutralise the orange with its opposite colour – blue.
Dark blonde colours
The first number of dark blonde hair colours always starts with a 7. Light brown would be a 6 and blonde is a colour level of 8.
Darker hair is better at camouflaging damage— If your hair needs some TLC, going dark is a smart option. Darker color molecules naturally weigh down flyaways and seal split ends much better than blonde bleach, making hair look thicker and shinier.
ash brown (5.1) ash light brown (6.1)
Ash blonde is a very nice cool blonde tone and blends beautifully when your roots are starting to get visible. Any stubborn grey hairs won't stand out either. Ash-blonde dyed hair is also less likely to turn 'yellow'.
Shade 7.0 hair dye is best for anyone with natural hair between medium blonde and medium brown. For a lighter shade that still reflects naturally, check out 8.0 Medium Blonde. For anyone who currently has color treated hair, there are special considerations for the color result you can achieve.
Have you ever seen someone with amazing hair, and couldn't tell if it was blonde or brown? If you have, the chances are it was bronde. A perfect mix of the two shades, bronde is one of THE most covetable colours this year.
But more than likely, the more black you add to the brown - it will become a darker and darker brown until it eventually turns black. Suggestion: Do a shade scale. Grab a bit of each colour and mix until you get the answer.
7 Foil Highlights is usually just highlights on the top, from the hairline to close to the crown of the head. It is only for subtle highlight looks.
Option 3: Mix To Achieve That In Between Shade
If the Hair Colour you want is not in the Range or is in the middle of two Colours, create your own Hair Colour mixture. For Example: 7.3 Golden Blonde is too Light and 5.3 Golden Brown is too Dark, mix half and half together to achieve a "6.3 Dark Golden Blonde".
You've got it: blue! Since red and yellow make orange, that means blue is the missing primary color. Blue and orange are complements on the color wheel, which means that blue will neutralize an orange hair color.
At a level 8 yellow, the recommended neutralizing tone is violet: Whereas at a level 7, only one level darker, the recommended corrective tone for the yellow-orange underlying pigment is a blue-violet: This visually explains why it is so important to tone on-level.
The lineup is available in 15 shades—we suggest reaching for an ash blonde toner for orange hair if your strands are light (try the shade Cool Blonde), or use Smoky Bronde to help neutralize brass on lighter brunette strands.
