The 40/42 in the name Lavender 40/42 means that it has been standardized by blending with a variety of lavender and lavadin essential oils to make up the aromatic lavender notes of 40% linalool and 42% linalyl acetate. This blending helps create a dependable aromatic experience and oil performance year to year.
For general purposes, a 2-3% dilution is recommended. When it comes to blending essential oils by note it is a good idea to follow the 30/50/20 rule. This makes it easier to find the right balance between the oils used in your blend, with 30% being top note, 50% middle note and 20% base note.
Open the bottle and smell the contents. If the smell underwhelms you or if it feels like a cheap perfume, know that it's a fake. Training your nose may take a little time, but it's the best way to identify pure essential oils. Remember: high-grade essential oils give off a natural and soothing scent.
Avoid buying oils from retailers/suppliers that don't provide the essential oil's botanical name (Latin name), country of origin or method of extraction.
Growth and Lifecycle of the Plant
Essential oils obtained from certain plants, especially trees like sandalwood, that need to reach a certain age of maturity before they can be harvested will be significantly more expensive.
For this reason you should not use more than 5-6 drops of essential oil in your aroma diffusion system according to the size of your room. The excessive amount of essential oils will result in a fragrance that is too strong and this is certainly not a suitable solution for small spaces.
The final note to an aroma is the base note. Sometimes referred to as the dry out note, fixative note, or bottom of the aroma. These will start to appear within a couple of hours of putting the oil on, and can sometimes last for up to a day. Our classic base note is Frankincense.
Frankincense oil seems to kill some types of bacteria and fungi (yeasts). It is commonly used as a fragrance in soaps, lotions, and perfumes. People use frankincense for aging skin, wound healing, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support any use.
At doTERRA, we often encounter the question: "Why are your essential oils pricier than others?" The answer, in short, lies in our commitment to purity, sourcing, and overall quality.
Avoid inhaling undiluted oils directly, as this can lead to irritation. Diffuser safely: If using a diffuser, follow the manufacturer's instructions and ensure that the space is well ventilated. Prolonged exposure to high concentrations of essential oils is associated with negative heart issues and lung symptoms.
When in doubt, a safe ratio to follow is 6 drops in 1 ounce of a carrier substance (a 1% dilution), which is something you can go up from, if needed. Each essential oil varies in how much can be used for different applications, so do your research first to know if you can use more or less of your favorite oils.
Any scent can also become easily overwhelming if too much oil is used, plus it can cause damage to your diffuser model itself over time.
Proper storage is crucial to maintaining the potency and longevity of your essential oil room sprays. To protect the integrity of the oils, always store your sprays in their original packaging or dark glass bottles—amber or cobalt blue options are ideal, as they shield the contents from damaging UV light.
Examples of essential oils that are effective in anti-aging are Frankincense, Lavender, Rose, Neroli, Geranium, Sandalwood, Citrus, Carrot seed, Ylang Ylang, and Rosemary.
Just mix a couple of drops of your nominated essential oil with water and the diffuser will release a fine, scented mist over the next few hours, filling your room with a calming aroma. ☺️ Apply directly to your body - Rub a couple of drops of the essential oil on your wrists, forehead and temples.
Asthma attacks: While essential oils may be safe for most people to inhale, some people with asthma may react to breathing in the fumes. Headaches: Inhaling essential oils may help some people with their headaches, but inhaling too much may lead to a headache in others.
To produce one ounce of rose absolute, approximately 60,000 roses are needed. This is why rose absolute is more expensive then many other popular essential oils; the process of extraction is much more time-consuming and costly. Flowers are typically picked by hand before sunrise and then the extraction process begins!
