What should I wear on my feet at a spa? Towelling slippers or flip-flops are the order of the day. Most spas will provide disposable towelling slippers or plastic flip-flops for you to wear. Some may not, and may instead suggest that you bring your own footwear.
For massages and body treatments, ideally you disrobe completely (that means underwear, too). Most spas offer paper panties to wear during body treatments (like scrubs, wraps, or self-tanning)—they don't cover much, but enough to provide a modicum of modesty.
What you wear and bring to a spa day depends entirely on which spa treatments you utilize that day. Generally, though, you'll want to bring something light, comfortable and easy to change out of and store. Upon arrival, spa's typically give visitors slippers, robe and a towel, however, some also bring their own.
It's best to leave heavy fabrics, such as denim or wool, at home and choose lighter clothes that are thin and form-fitting. Some suitable options include t-shirts, tank tops, shorts or sports bras. Even if you prefer to cover up, make sure you've considered the limitations placed on your massage therapist.
Also, if it's just an upper body massage, you can leave your socks on, otherwise, slip them off so the therapist can work on your soles. Once you're in the room, the therapist will leave so you can slip off your robe and get on the table. There should be a blanket or a towel for you slip under for privacy.
Generally, you should wear swimwear or underwear under your robe. Check the requirements of the treatments you've booked.
Stick with the essential oils the spa uses in treatments. On tipping: don't assume if gratuity is included that the therapist gets it- they don't always. Ask the therapist discretely if you can- many places will take an included gratuity off your bill if you request it. Then give the tip directly to the therapist.
It is most important to shower before you use your hot tub to remove sweat, dead skin cells and personal care products such as cologne and deodorant. This reduces the work required from your hot tub filter and water care system to keep your hot tub water clean and balanced.
Deciding to wear your hair up or down during a massage is up to you. The massage therapist can work around your hair with whatever option you choose. I find a lot of my clients with long hair wear it up while they are laying face down. After I turn them over, I request them to let it loose.
When it comes to footwear, again, spas want their guests to be as comfortable as possible, so be sure to wear or pack shoes which are comfortable yet practical. Slippers and flip-flops are popular choices.
We spoke to two etiquette experts, who suggested leaving a 15% to 20% tip, if you're able. Twenty percent is generous for the massage therapist and easy on the brain, which may be feeling more relaxed than ever after a massage. The math is straightforward. To find 20%, start by finding 10%, then double that amount.
Spas want their guests to be as comfortable as possible, so non-restrictive garments - such as yoga bottoms, lounge pants, T-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies - are encouraged at most resorts. Trainers and sports shoes are often allowed too, but their use is likely to be restricted to dry areas, for hygiene reasons.
Ideally, you should aim to time your hot tub sessions to last between 15 and 30 minutes. Depending on the factors at play (i.e., water temperature), you might be able to extend your soak to 45 minutes. Keep in mind that you can always re-enter your hot tub later on!
When booked in a full-service spa a couple's massage will typically include access to showers, hot tubs, lounging areas, and other spa amenities. Many couple's massage treatments may offer special amenities such as champagne, chocolates, and fruit.
» Do not put your head under the water in a spa as this may increase the risk of entrapment. » A person with long hair should be particularly careful to avoid putting their heads near outlets.
It's a good idea to choose a suit that's made with durable fabrics such as nylon. Suits that contain a larger blend of Lycra® spandex will tend to show wear much more quickly, especially in hot tubs that use chlorine systems. Ask your friends to rinse their swimsuits well before using your hot tub.
That includes sexual touching, sexually explicit comments to or any sexual act whatsoever. Every well-trained massage therapist understands – or should understand – the guidelines that follow.
A therapist is still able to perform a high quality massage even if their client is asleep. It's not rude, nor does it insult them in anyway. In fact, sleeping through a massage is a compliment to the therapist. Falling asleep tells them you are relaxed and comfortable and enjoying the time on their table.
To get maximum benefits from your massage, schedule your massage when you are less busy. For instance, you can go for your massage in the morning before reporting to work, during your lunch break or in the evening, whichever works for you.
It's common to be barefoot during the session, but if you prefer socks, you're free to leave socks on, or I have some for you to borrow if your feet get cold. And always feel free to ask for a blanket! This is done fully clothed since we're working on the hands and/or feet.
