It's highly recommended that you move your face around a lot after getting Botox. This includes smiling, frowning, and raising your eyebrows. It's similar to facial exercises, minus the touching. Facial movement may look — and feel — silly, but it actually helps the Botox work better.
After receiving botox, moving your facial muscles through expressive movements such as continuously frowning will maximize the treatments effectiveness. This is done by increasing the uptake of the muscle groups which were targeted by the botox.
Waiting at least 4 hours for moderate exercise gives the BOTOX time to settle into place so it doesn't move anywhere it shouldn't. If you perform hot yoga or engage in strenuous exercise defined as a heart rate over 130, it is recommended that you wait 24 hours after your treatment.
botox injected into the frowning muscles doesn't affect the frontalis muscle that helps raise the eyebrows. If you get treatment of this muscle on the forehead, if too high a dose is used you will not be able to raise your brow.
The goal of the treatment should not be to immobilize any forehead movement, or else a patient will show the unwanted frozen face symptoms. A successful Botox treatment in the forehead should still result in the patient having some ability to move their forehead.
With Botox, “we're limiting the muscle contractions that lead to folds, so yes, it can feel funny in the beginning, because you're not able to move muscles that would normally contract on command,” he explains.
When injected properly by a medical doctor, you can expect to see results after your first treatment. It can take two to four days before the weakening of the muscle begins and movement is stalled. You can see the maximum results of your treatment anywhere from ten to fourteen days after treatment.
Why Does Botox Make Your Forehead Shiny? Light naturally reflects off of smooth surfaces, so the smoother your skin, the more light will bounce. Botox injections smooth the skin, which can cause it to appear shinier, especially if it is overdone.
Stay sitting up for the initial 4 hours after the injections: Another way BOTOX can disperse from the targeted area is if you bend over or lie down during the first few hours after your treatment. We recommend staying upright for 4 hours after leaving our practice.
The area may initially feel numb or strange. However, avoid touching or rubbing your face following Botox treatment since these actions can cause Botox to spread to other, unintended areas and cause adverse side effects.
After a Botox injection, your cosmetic surgeon or a nurse will advise you on aftercare. You should avoid any exercise for at least 3 hours after treatment. You can try frowning and raising your eyebrows about an hour after your treatment. These facial exercises aren't necessary, but they may lead to better results.
Don't touch your face for 1-3 one days after Botox
If you didn't have Botox on your face, the same is true for whatever part of your body you had Botox injected. Avoid having any professional massages after Botox on any treated areas, as this could lead to the toxin moving from the injection site as well.
Drink Coffee
You should also avoid coffee before Botox. This is because coffee contains caffeine, which may trigger your blood pressure and increase the likelihood of bruising during the procedure. For this reason, you should avoid coffee and other beverages containing caffeine at least 24 hours before the treatment.
Can I sleep on my side after having Botox®? Yes, provided you wait at least four hours before lying down. Botox® takes a few hours to settle into place, so lying down straightaway could cause it to migrate to other muscles in your face and increase the risk of complications.
For this reason, patients should plan to sleep on their backs with their heads slightly elevated for at least 1 – 2 nights after getting BOTOX injections.
When Botox is applied to problem areas around the eyebrows, the muscles relax and the skin on top of them becomes smoother. The muscles around the eyebrows are pulled upwards, elevating the eyebrows and making a patient's eyes appear more open.
Heavy brows and the feeling of drooping.
This feeling and look comes from treatment of the forehead muscles called the frontalis. These muscles move the brows up and in certain cases after Botox treatment, the relaxed muscle then makes the brows drop.
In general, you can see the effects of Botox as early as 3 to 4 days after an injection. Dr. Oscar Trujillo, a facial plastic surgeon at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, says most patients will see results within 10 to 14 days but should wait the full 14 days to see the maximum results.
There are also other factors that affect how quickly you can expect to see the final results of your treatment. For instance, it takes longer to see the final results of treatment if you have strong facial muscles.
Botox injections block certain chemical signals from nerves, mostly signals that cause muscles to contract. The most common use of these injections is to temporarily relax the facial muscles that cause wrinkles in the forehead and around the eyes.
Do not rub or massage the treated area and avoid make-up if possible. Do not have any beauty treatments on your face e.g. facials, facial massage for 2 weeks- this may cause the injected solution to spread to nearby muscles.
It's actually common to get a small tender red lump in the area where you got injected for your forehead wrinkle or other facial wrinkles, which should go away within the first hour of treatment. This may be followed by slight bruising or redness, which is also normal.
