Brushing eyelash extensions is important to break down any pollen, dust, or makeup buildup. The mechanical brushing will break them down and brush them away from your eyes. Brushing your extensions is part of standard eyelash extension hygiene and will help minimize your chances of irritation or infection.
Most individuals schedule their lash care routine for the morning when they first wake up (because lashes can shift as you sleep), after applying makeup, after showering and after cleansing your lash line. Many people comb their lashes more than once a day. The key is to do it regularly and always comb gently!
If you don't brush regularly, makeup residue is easy to clump up. These clumped residues make it easy for bacteria to reproduce and there is a high risk of eye diseases. To keep your eyelashes and eyes healthy, you should always wash your lashes and hair roots thoroughly with a lash shampoo and brush to avoid clumping.
Clean and Brush Them
For your lashes to last, it is crucial that you clean and brush them daily. Make sure to wash your lashes (wash them and your face) even if you have not been wearing makeup. When cleaning them it is also important to use an oil-free cleanser such as (like) our Lashology Foaming Cleanser.
#2: Brush Your Eyelashes Daily
To take care of your eyelash extensions, brush your lashes daily to prevent crisscrossing. A simple 15–20 second sweep through your lashes in the morning will put stray lashes in their place.
Take a very, very small amount of a lash shampoo (we recommend LASHGAME's Eyelash Extension Foaming Cleanser and lather it up on your palm. Apply this to both eyes, one at a time, splashing it over them. Don't rub them like you're washing hair though; just gently splash it over your closed eyes.
When should you clean your lash extensions? Clean your lash extensions every day - or twice a day if you're an eye makeup wearer or have oily skin or eyelids. I recommend cleaning lash extensions at night to remove the day's facial oils, dust, dirt and makeup.
Brush your lashes with a clean mascara wand daily.
Using a clean mascara wand can help keep your lashes looking fluffy and full. Brush your lashes daily after cleaning them to help keep the extensions looking their best.
When to Clean Lash Extensions. If you have oily eyelids, you should clean your lash extensions daily. The same applies to individuals who use eye makeup wearers. Clean your lashes twice or three times a week if you don't have such issues.
Your lash extensions only last a week!
This often happens when not enough lash extensions have been applied. If you think you've found the cheapest technician around then the chances are they aren't spending enough time during the appointment to provide a long lasting, full lash effect.
Use a good lash styling wand. Avoid brushing at the point of attachment, so that you don't inadvertently weaken the adhesive bond or pull the extensions loose. Brush in a motion that follows the natural curl of the extension. Each brushing session should take no more than 30 seconds to complete.
Resting your head and lashes on a silk pillowcase is ideal when you have eyelash extensions. Not only will it allow your lashes and the extensions themselves to glide on the surface while you sleep, but you will also avoid any lashes getting caught or pulled like when you use a cotton pillowcase.
Brush your lashes regularly.
Brushing your extensions two times a day (in the morning and before bedtime) is key. As always, be gentle, and use your mascara brush to do that.
If you're wearing eyelash extensions, avoid rubbing your eyes whenever possible. When you rub your eye, the friction can cause your lashes to twist out of place – in some cases they can be ripped out by a stray fingernail or knuckle!
Crunchy extensions could be caused by outdated extension material, incorrect diameter choice, incorrect number of lashes placed, improper glue use, incorrect glue for the environment, and incorrect aftercare.
Tip: It's best to let your lash extensions air dry. You can wrap some toilet paper around your finger and gently blot your lashes. Just let your lashes sit on the toilet paper for a few seconds so the water can be absorbed. Avoid cotton pads or wipes.
To ensure natural lashes recover from constant eyelash extension use, eyelash extensions should be removed every six to eight months to allow the eyelid line to be thoroughly cleansed after the months of make-up build-up and bacteria, and also for the natural lashes to grow and thicken.
Use a gentle, oil-free and alcohol-free cleanser – such as a foaming face cleanser, facial soap or baby shampoo – and work it gently into your lashes and over your eyelids. Use an up-and-down motion so you don't tug at your eyelashes and concentrate on the lash line as this is where dirt and bacteria can build up.
5) They look very messy! This is a sign of improper application and aftercare. They may be criss crossing because when the extensions was attached it wasn't following the natural growth pattern of your lash line. Criss crossing is also a sign or poor isolating.
Do not rub or pull on your eyelash extensions. Keep your Eyelash Extensions dry for 4-6 hours after your appointment. You may wash your face in the sink using a washcloth, avoiding the eye area. Keep all oil based products away from the eyes and remember that everything on your face will travel to the eye area.
Your Lashes Will Become Weak and Brittle
If you don't clean your lash extensions, the dirt, oil, and makeup that builds up on them will cause your lashes to become weak and brittle. This means they are more likely to fall out prematurely and will look less than stellar.
You may be wondering, why do my eyelash extensions itch? Eyelash extensions can cause itchy eyes due to exposure to formaldehyde fumes, allergies, poor application techniques, and inadequate aftercare. To find relief, cleanse your eyelashes and contact your lash artist to identify the cause.
