After Your Tan Replenish hydration to your skin by using an after tan moisturizer. Wait 3-4 hours after your session before you shower. After every shower, we highly recommend using a moisturizer to enhance and extend the life of your tan.
We want your tan to be 20/10 and unfortunately if moisturiser is applied it can leave blotches, marks and strip the tan in certain spots on the skin. Once you've washed off the colour guide and waited at least 8 hours, you can apply your favourite moisturiser to your entire body.
Resist the urge to shower immediately after using a sunbed, as it can negatively impact the final result of the tan.
The professional indoor tanning industry promotes and teaches what we refer to as The Golden Rule of Smart Tanning: Don't ever sunburn. The indoor tanning industry has been more effective at teaching sunburn prevention than those who promote complete sun avoidance.
Don't shower right after tanning.
If you do bathe, always use a moisturizer to maintain skin moisture. Avoid sporting any fragrance, deodorant or even using robust soaps before getting into a tanning booth.
Depending on your skin color, in general the average person can develop a base tan in 3-5 sessions which then can be maintained with regular sunbed use. Two sessions a week should be enough to further deepen your tan in a safe and gentle manner.
Ten minutes in a sunbed can be roughly equivalent to 1-2 hours in natural sunlight, depending on factors like sunbed intensity and skin type. However, this varies widely based on geographical location, time of day, and weather conditions. Always adhere to recommended exposure times to minimise skin damage risks.
☀️Tanning Tip Tuesday☀️ How to avoid the “bunny tail” or white spots on lower back or under your arms or sides: ✅ when using a lay down bed always reposition your body every few minutes to achieve an even tan. Switch from side to side and rest your arms behind your head .
TIP #1 - PREP YOUR SKIN
Exfoliating helps prepare your skin before you tan and remove any dead skin cells. Take time to exfoliate so that your skin will be more than ready to get exposed to the rays in a tanning bed. Apply a moisturiser after you shower to ensure your skin is not dry prior to your sunbed session.
After extensive sunbathing, it is advisable to first go into the shade or take a shower. Lukewarm water is best. Hot or cold water shocks the skin and can delay recovery. To avoid irritation, be careful not to rub the skin dry, but rather gently pat it dry with a towel.
First and foremost, it is not “burnt skin.” That smell is known as the “after tan odor” and it is caused by friendly bacteria on the surface of the skin.
Some tanning beds will have buttons for you to personally control the fans that circulate the air, or some will have separate light bulbs you can turn on and off to tan your face. Depending on the salon, you may also have to close the lid to the tanning bed and turn the machine on when you are ready to start.
Apply the moisturizer generously, focusing on areas prone to dryness, such as elbows, knees, and ankles. Opt for products containing ingredients like aloe vera, shea butter, or hyaluronic acid, known for their hydrating properties. Moisturize at least twice daily, especially during the first few days after tanning.
Usually, the skin will not tan after the first session, and the results only become visible after 3-5 sunbed tanning sessions. These sessions allow the skin to oxidize its melanin, darken the cells, and produce a tan. Lighter skin types may need a few extra sessions for the tan to deepen.
Moisturize everyday after applying your self tan. Use a MineTan Everyday Glow Gradual Tan so the tan is continually being topped up and your tan lasts longer. After day 5, exfoliate with a soft body polish on a daily basis, to help your skin absorb even more moisturizer and keep it looking and feeling gorgeous.
No, you don't need to flip over in a tanning bed. In fact, many people tan stomach-down because it's more comfortable that way. However, if you want an evenly distributed tan, then you should flip over halfway through your session so that both sides of your body get equal exposure to the UV rays.
Aftersun creams and lotions such as Aloe Vera lotion will help with cooling down the skin. Many people keep Aloe Vera plants in their homes for several different purposes. If you have an Aloe Vera plant at home, cut one of the leaves from the plant and rub the aloe sap directly onto the burn for cooling relief.
Many people ask, are stand up sunbeds better? Well, stand-up tanning often features higher-intensity bulbs, meaning shorter sessions are required to achieve the desired results. Lay-down tanning, while slightly less intense, provides a more gradual tanning experience.
It doesn't. The bulbs used in tanning beds emit mostly UVA light; however, your body needs UVB light to make vitamin D. To get vitamin D safely, board-certified dermatologists recommend that healthy adults get vitamin D from their diet.
Papaya: Like carrots, orange fruits and vegetables, such as papaya, help to enhance your tan naturally thanks to its high beta-carotene levels. Melon: This refreshing fruit, rich in antioxidants and beta-carotenes will help you to keep your golden skin tone.
Incorrect Tanning Bed Settings
Tanning beds have different UV intensity and exposure times, so find the right combination for your skin type. Too little time on the bed may not give your skin enough UV exposure while too much time can cause burning and make it harder to build up a tan over time.
