As a general rule of thumb, you should aim to trim your eyebrows about once per week. That being said, if you have an event coming up, you may want to treat your eyebrows to a quick trim beforehand. On the other hand, if you're trying to grow your eyebrows, you can leave more time between trimming sessions.
If you've never paid too much to your arches besides the occasional plucking and tweezing, now is a good time to start. Just like a new hairstyle, a set of well-defined brows can trim away (literally) the years and help you to look younger than you actually are.
This is because eyebrow hairs have shorter growth phases than the hairs on your scalp or in your beard. Eyebrows are more like the rest of your body hair—sure, they can get wild and might need minor trimming, but they'll stop growing after a certain length and soon fall out naturally. (Then they regrow.)
When you reach the top of your eyebrow hairline, lightly trim anything that's sticking out between the bristles. For the stray hairs, Capizzano suggests purchasing a pair of needle nose tweezers and plucking the hairs bordering your eyebrows.
What Is An Eyebrow Slit? The eyebrow slit is a fashion trend that involves shaving a thin, vertical line into the eyebrow with a razor or electric trimmer. Originally known as an eyebrow cut, the shaved gap in the brow creates a popular and stylish aesthetic.
Nobody wants to accidently shave their eyebrow off, that will make for a pretty rough day. A size 3 guard is a great place to start, leaving your brow at a 3/8” length, or 10mm. You can always step down to a 2 if you want them to be a bit shorter, but it's better to start with a longer length.
Trimming eyebrows means simply grazing a bit off the top. Using your eyebrow scissors, snip any long hairs along the brow line (we recommend using a magnifying mirror for accuracy). “Only cut the tips of the hair, rather than cutting the hair in half.
“As we get older, the natural aging process thins the hairs on our bodies,” says Tonya Crooks, a celebrity brow expert and founder of The BrowGal. Consequently, sparse eyebrows are a sign of that aspect of the aging process—just like the thinning of hair on your head. Thicker eyebrows can make you look more youthful.
"As we age, it's completely normal for our hair, including eyebrows and lashes, to thin," says Audrianna Mora, the Global Education Manager of RevitaLash Cosmetics. Over time, skin loses its elasticity, causing hair follicles to become brittle and fall out.
Do Eyebrows Grow Back After Shaving? If you go a little overboard with the shaver, know this: Yes, your brows will grow back. While waxing or tweezing lets the hair grow in with a feathery, tapered edge, shaving creates a blunt edge, so the brow hairs may appear to come back thicker.
As the follicles grow more sensitive to androgens, the hormones keep them in the anagen phase longer, leading to more hair growth with age in places such as the eyebrows, nose and ears.
Unfortunately, there's little to no evidence that any of the ingredients in Vaseline, which is a brand name for petroleum jelly, can grow thicker or fuller eyebrows. However, Vaseline is very moisturizing and may actually help eyebrows look fuller and thick, even if they're actually growing at the same rate.
“While it depends on many factors, including the tweezers you use, how often you pluck and how traumatic it is for your hair, you won't be stuck with thin eyebrows forever,” says dermatologist Shilpi Khetarpal, MD. “Most of the time, they grow back.”
While waxing or tweezing lets the hair grow in with a feathery, tapered edge, shaving creates a blunt edge, so the brow hairs may appear to come back thicker. But lay to rest any worries of losing your brows forever after shaving—it's totally a myth.
Use some nail cutting scissors or hair cutting shears to cut the excess length that's sticking out of the top of the brush. Focus on cutting the longest hairs and slightly stagger the length as you go by cutting each hair a slightly different length than the one before. This will make your eyebrows look more natural.
Why Are People Wearing Eyebrow Slits? Eyebrow slits can be permanent or temporary by shaving or using makeup to create a gap. Generally, it's used as a form of self-expression, but take note that if done incorrectly, it may not create the effect you're looking for.
A slit or cut in the eyebrow hair naturally occurs if the person has been in a fight and suffered a gash in that area. They are remnants of an injury, usually seen in old gangster movies where the actors had to shave off a section of their brows to mimic that.

Streicher says that if you see brow hairs sticking straight out or growing in the wrong direction, it could be a result of tweezing or waxing. Healy says to prepare yourself for noticing a new variety of hair lengths, since the brow hairs you never allowed to reach their full maturation are now getting there.
