1. The water's too hot or too cold. To get the right temperature for clear skin, you have to play Goldilocks. "Cold water tightens the skin's pores, which doesn't allow the natural secretion of sebum and acne-causing bacteria," says Neil Sadick, MD, of Sadick Dermatology.
Acne happens when there is too much sebum (oil) on the skin. Although a hot shower removes sebum, the removal also triggers the body to produce more sebum after the shower. If you suffer from acne, it is advisable to take cold showers to help sebum control and prevent new breakouts.
Hot water can strip away the natural oils of your skin and dry it out, while cold water helps to constrict blood vessels to temporarily tighten pores and reduce redness.
Lukewarm water is advisable to wash your face with, but cold water has its benefits, too. Cold water tightens the appearance of your skin, so it may make you look renewed and refreshed. It also helps boost your circulation, which can help give your skin a healthier appearance, albeit temporarily.
By reducing the inflammation of your pimples, you're directly reducing the size. In theory, gradually reducing the size of your pimple with ice can eventually make it go away entirely. When used on inflammatory acne, ice also has the potential to decrease redness, thereby making your pimples less noticeable.
Applying ice on the face has been known as a good way to reduce puffiness and swelling of the skin, especially around the eyes. It also helps to ease pain by countering the effects of inflammation. That's why rubbing ice on the face can also help to soothe sunburn.
Detoxifies the body and prevents acne
Try to develop a habit of consuming warm water early in the morning and late at night daily. Warm water can increase your body temperature and make you sweat. This helps get rid of the toxins and impurities from the body and thus prevents the growth of acne.
Can Warm Water Open Your Pores? Using warm water to “open” your pores is technically impossible. Your pores aren't muscles, so they can't voluntarily open and contract regardless of water temperature. “There is nothing that can physically make the pores smaller or bigger,” says Dr.
“Hot water strips the skin of its natural oils and healthy bacteria,” Grous explains, “which plays a major role in keeping moisture in—and the bad stuff out. And because dryness triggers the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum, hot water can worsen preexisting acne or cause a breakout.”
From a skin standpoint, daily showers can help you get rid of acne-causing bacteria (which means they'll help you stave off breakouts on your chest, back, and butt). Plus, if you're prone to dryness, derms say regular showers will help to replenish your skin's moisture and kill germs.
"A morning shower is a great way to stimulate your skin cells, which is particularly important for combination and oily skin types, as well as skin prone to acne," she explains. "Oils can build up on the skin during the night, and a morning shower can help to clear those pores."

That being said, you should try to avoid cleansing your skin with too much cold water because it does not effectively clean out the skin. Cold water tightens up your pores, which can trap bacteria and dirt into the skin.
What does steaming do for your skin? It's cleansing. Steam opens up your pores and helps loosen any buildup of dirt for a deeper cleanse. Opening up your pores also softens blackheads, making them easier to remove.

According to Agarwal, the combination of green tea and lemon is a potent blend to address acne. “Simply boil few green tea leaves in some water and add a teaspoon of lemon juice to it. Strain and drink it hot,” she recommends.
Don't apply ice on your skin more than once a day. If you have sensitive skin, don't apply ice cubes directly to your face. A towel or a cold compress works better. Do not leave an ice pack or cube on a particular area of your face for more than a minute.
