The bottom line. Both sugaring and waxing can be great forms of hair removal if you're looking for lasting results. There's no clear “winner” between the two, because it's ultimately down to preference. Those with sensitive skin types might prefer sugaring because of its gentler nature and more natural formulation.
Sugaring is usually considered less painful than waxing because the mixture doesn't adhere to the skin.
If you have thick or coarse hair, waxing is going to be more effective. Otherwise, sugaring can actually be more effective as the treatment causes less breakage and can pull out more hair. In my own experience they results are pretty similar – hair grows back no matter what.
Sugaring is a relatively painless, affordable, and long-lasting Brazilian hair removal method. Say goodbye to the irritation, ingrown hairs, and razor bumps caused by shaving or regular waxing – waxing removes live skin cells alongside dead skin cells and unwanted hair, causing unnecessary pain and irritation.
Sugaring is a quick way to remove hair from most areas of the body. However, it is common for bumps to develop on the skin after Sugaring. Many people will observe small, red bumps on the skin immediately after sugaring. Others may notice them about a week later.
Will sugaring work with even very thick or coarse hair? Sugaring works with all hair types. Generally people with very thick or coarse hair see great results where their hair grows back sparser early on. They're usually the people who get hooked on sugaring!
Sugaring is a fairly popular procedure. You can easily remove unwanted hair on any part of the body with sugar. The deep bikini zone is no exception.
"Clients tend to comment that smoother results last longer with sugaring than waxing," he says. "I personally prefer sugaring, as results last longer and it's less redness left afterward." If any part of your body is particularly heat-sensitive, stick with sugaring, which is done at room temperature.
Brazilian wax remove all hair from and around the pubic area, right from the front to the back. It will cover the inner side of the bum as well as the butt crack.
The maximum length of hair for sugaring is 1/4 inch. Long hairs can always be shortened. But if the ideal moment was missed and no trimming is possible, epilation can still be done. But in this case, you will have to accept the fact that the process can be more painful, and more paste than usual is needed.
First off, for sugaring to work, the hair needs to be grown out —ideally, "one-eighth or one-fourth inch of stubble for the sugary paste to adhere to," Palep says. Additionally, the method of applying and removing the sugar paste is crucial to ensuring proper hair removal.
You can safely sugar wax as often as every two weeks, though most clients go a bit longer between appointments. For best results, it's necessary to remove hair while it's in the growth phase.
"You'll get less hair growth each time, and the hair that does grow will be finer and sparser." The end result: smooth, hairless skin, which usually lasts for around four to six weeks.
As long as your hair is long enough and you're not using aggressive exfoliators, sugaring is an excellent and non-permanent (but eventually permanent) way to remove excess body hair.
Medical issues. Lastly, your hair may be growing back quickly after a waxing treatment due to a diagnosed or undiagnosed medical issues. Hormone fluctuations caused by conditions like Polycystic ovary syndrome and some medications can all be potential factors as to why your hair is growing back at a faster rate.
Typical hair growth is somewhere between 4-6 weeks. If your hair growth takes longer than that, talk with your sugarist and we can get you set up with an appointment schedule that best fits your hair growth. Some cycles of hair growth will return every 4-6 weeks, some every 1-4 months, and some every 6 years.
How long do I wait between appointments? The optimal amount of time between sugaring is 3-4 weeks. You want to remove the hair by the root while the hair is being nourished in order to discourage the hair from growing back! Some people come every two weeks!
A disadvantage to sugaring is the pain involved. Even though the sugar solution will only stick to the hairs, pulling them out from the roots still causes pain. Applying pressure to the recently sugared area is one way to reduce the discomfort.
Hair as short as 1/16 of an inch can be successfully extracted. For best results hair should be between 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch...the length of a grain of rice. If longer than ½ inch, trimming before your appointment can make your sugaring session more comfortable.
For the best results, start exfoliating the desired area of hair removal the week before your appointment to help remove dead skin. Otherwise, on the day of your appointment, you're going to want to shower, lightly exfoliate, and cleanse your skin of any possible surface oils and/or lotions.
Sugaring is Better Than Shaving for Encouraging Finer Hair Regrowth. Like waxing, with time, your hair follicles become weaker from sugaring. This means less hair grows back eventually. The hair that grows in will not have the stubbly, coarse feel that shaving regrowth inevitably has.
Hair does not grow back differently — either finer or thicker — after temporary removal. This is true whether the method is depilation (removing hair at or below the skin surface either with shaving or chemical depilatories) or epilation.
Sugaring lightens the skin tone and reduces the growth of thick hair in the area. Keep your weight balanced because being overweight is also a major reason for darkness of the skin. Stop using hair removal creams such as Nair or Veet as they consist of very harmful chemicals that reduce the natural order of the skin.
