You don't need a thigh gap to be a healthy person. In fact, very healthy and athletic women are unlikely to have a thigh gap, even if they have very low body fat. That's because athletic legs have muscle and muscle naturally makes the thighs touch.
A thigh gap is not possible for everybody at a healthy weight. Whether or not you can get a thigh gap depends on the set of your hips. Wide-set hips may allow thigh gaps, but for those with narrower hips, thigh gaps aren't possible even with very minimal fat on the thighs.
In practise, it's rare enough that something like 5% women in this world will have a natural thigh gap without resorting to drastic and dangerous measures. Despite this (or maybe because of this) teeny, tiny percentage, thigh gaps have become the most coveted “It accessory”.
The idea behind a thigh gap is that your legs are spaced far enough apart to look gamine and young. Don't think this is a coincidence. Our patriarchal society encourages women to infantilize themselves for sexual and social gain. When women relinquish their womanhood, they relinquish control over their bodies.
Can everyone have a thigh gap? Short story: No. And for good reason – we're all different. 'For some people, a thigh gap is a natural part of their bone structure and genetics,' says Dr Rekha Tailor, GP, cosmetic doctor and medical director at Health & Aesthetics.
Anatomically speaking however, femurs should hang fairly vertical from the pelvis in standing posture. Unless you are underweight or have femurs that are extremely bowed or your hip joints live unusually far apart inside the pelvis, your thighs will touch.
This is a common condition in women and can occur at any age due to genetics, ageing and when you consume more calories than your body needs or is able to burn, which then turns into fat.
Basically, having a gap between your thighs was considered beautiful, which shamed a ton of women whose thighs naturally touch. The mermaid thigh movement recognizes that other group of women—those who don't have a natural thigh gap—effectively giving every woman a body-positive trend to identify with.
From the idea of a heavy person making thunderous noise while walking.
Although some people swear you can get a thigh gap by methods or hacks, like targeted fat loss, inner thigh exercises, or excessive dieting, these won't work for everyone. And over time, they can be dangerous since extreme calorie restriction can cause bone loss and cardiovascular problems.
The main culprit behind weight gain in your thighs is estrogen. This hormone drives the increase in fat cells in females, causing deposits to form most commonly around the buttocks and thighs.
Most likely genetics. Everyone's body has it's own natural distribution of muscle and fat. If you're in shape then don't worry about it.
This is usually due to your genes. Leg fat may be comprised of different types of fat cells, including: Subcutaneous fat: most common in the thighs and located right beneath the skin. Intramuscular fat: fat dispersed within the muscle itself, much like the marbling seen in meat.
The thing is, inner thigh fat is normal, healthy, and most people have it. If they don't, it's less about their will or their worth and more about their DNA. On The Doctors, expert Dr. Travis Stork proved that inner thigh gaps are a genetic phenomenon based on bone structure.
Researchers tracked the volunteers for an average of 12.5 years. They found that people with big thighs had a lower risk of heart disease and premature death than those with thin thighs.

Leg fetishism or crurophilia is the sexual fetish for legs. Individuals may experience a sexual attraction to a particular area such as the thighs, knees, or calves.
In other words, belly fat and thigh fat are genetically destined for their final location during development. It's not a difference that's acquired over time, as a result of diet or environmental exposure.
Diet to reduce thigh fat
The biggest culprits are pasta, white rice and bread, pastries, sodas, and desserts. These foods cause your blood sugar levels to spike, then crash soon after. Hunger and cravings for even more junk food always follow.
A lot of Victoria's Secret models are ectomorphs. These girls usually have a lower body fat percentage without needing to exercise or diet. And they usually find it difficult to gain weight. But they also find it hard to build muscle, which means it's harder for them to get that nice toned look.
The main reason that you may have skinny legs is your genetics. Everyone is predisposed to carry fat and muscle in different areas of the body. It's possible that your genetics make it difficult for you to grow big legs, even if you're able to easily build muscle in your upper body.
If you have a lean body shape with normal body mass index but with skinny lower legs, you may be at three-fold increased risk of dying from cardiometabolic diseases such as Type 2 diabetes or cardiovascular disease, a research has claimed.
Researchers in China say overweight or obese patients who have a larger thigh circumference also have a lower risk of heart disease. Patients with larger thighs were found to have a lower blood pressure than their peers with smaller thighs.
Men and women differ in how they store fat. Before the menopause, women store fat mainly in the subcutaneous fat stores (buttocks and thighs), while men are more prone to develop visceral (abdominal) fat. After the menopause, women also become more prone to storing fat in the abdomen.
