A few seasons ago, brown and blue mascaras had returned for a short time, but the fleeting trend passed. Now for spring 2021, the world of beauty is trying out colored lashes again. Pink, green, purple, blue, or any other bold color is now the perfect eye makeup accent.
Tip 1: Use a blue mascara
Blue mascara has the ability to brighten the whites of your eyes making you look more awake and alert (and who doesn't want that?!). It also looks great with every eye colour so it doesn't matter if you're a hazel eyed beauty or a green eyed queen, blue mascara will look great on you!
Blue mascara is flattering for pretty much any eye color when used with the right products (we'll get into that below), but is especially gorgeous on brown eyes, blue eyes, and black eyes.
Allure reported that women were heading to eBay and paying upward of $35 a tube just to keep their peepers shaded in sapphire. London makeup artist Wendy Rowe recently told W Magazine, “In the eighties, that blue eyeliner and mascara look was super popular—something that Princess Diana always wore at the time.”
Blue Lashes
Try blue mascara for grey, brown, or light green eyes...or just to make a statement! For fair skinned women these blues will really pop on your skin. For darker skinned women, apply a base coat of black or primer, and glide on several coats of the blue after it dries.
Blue mascara will not only draw attention to your eyes, but it'll also brighten the whites of your eyes to make you look more awake and alert. If you're still wary of color, why not try coating your lower lashes with Lash Alert Mascara in blue.
Eye Makeup for Blue Eyes: Brown Mascara
Instead of opting for black mascara, women with blue eyes should go with brown, Matin says. Just as eye shadows in the tan family bring out your baby blues, brown mascara contrasts with the blue in your eyes, while giving you that coveted no-makeup makeup look.
If you have blue eyes, opt for navy, copper, dark brown, or yellow eyeliner. "When in doubt, look at a color wheel for some inspiration," says Marie. "Opposite colors complement and colors adjacent to each other in varying tones offer less contrast, but generally look very pretty when used all together."
For Brown Eyes
You can't go wrong with earthy browns, but "amber and midnight-blue tones emphasize the light flecks in brown eyes," says Tilbury. If you're not ready to commit to too much color, line just the waterlines. Rimming the eyes in dark blue gives the same effect as black in a less severe way.
Can I Use Brown Eyeliner With Black Mascara? Using brown eyeliner with black mascara is a great combination to wear. Notably, the placement of the colors will accentuate your eyelashes in a minor way; enough to grab attention, but not enough to overwhelm your face and create any unbalance.
Are Colored Mascaras Tacky? No, if you choose the right color and formula! Colored mascaras are definitely gutsy but not tacky at all. On choosing the right pigment and formula, anyone can nail the perfect colored mascara look.
While somewhat unconventional, blue mascara can be a surprisingly wearable alternative to basic black. You get the same lengthening and volumizing benefits, plus the bonus of an especially eye-catching shade that needs no help from eyeliner or shadow to create a stand-out look.
Use a Complimentary Eyeshadow
Another way to show off your lashes is by using a complimentary colored background. So for blue mascara, try an orange-toned shadow; for a green mascara, try a pink or red-toned shadow; and for a purple mascara, try a yellow-toned shadow.
In May, Lancôme introduced richly colored versions of its Grandiôse Mascara: two shades of blue, as well as violet and brown.
Instead, use a sharp, soft eyeliner pencil and apply dots of color all the way down your eyelid. Then, use a cotton swab or an angled eyeliner brush to smudge the liner, giving you a soft, even line. You can also use black or dark brown eyeshadow for this. You can do this for your top and bottom lashes.
Again working with tones, grey or charcoal is a perfect match for blue eyes. The coolness of the liner shade only emphasises the icy baby blue of your eyes. Play around with shades this season, eyeliner is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to shake up your makeup.
In simple terms, blue mascara can be used by anyone to enhance and beautify their eyes. It can accentuate blue or grey eyes and make the whites of the eyes look whiter. It will also make your eyes look deep and irresistible. People with green eyes, brown eyes, and hazel eyes can also use blue mascara.
If you have green eyes, blue mascara adds a vivid shock of color, enhancing your natural brightness. Add a dusting of pale peach eyeshadow across your lid before applying the mascara to make your lashes pop even more.
If you're sporting a newly lightened hair color, it's not a bad idea to go lighter with your mascara too. While blondes can totally rock black mascara, a brown shade will look less harsh against your pale strands.
Pink mascaras are available in a variety of shades including light baby pink, bright hot pink and even deep purple-pink. As well as choosing a shade to complement your eye color, think about the sort of makeup look you're creating.
Brown eyes look great with mascara that offsets their naturally warm undertones. We love a cool-toned violet mascara, like Black Cherry, to really make brown eyes pop. The deep purple color is super pigmented and instantly lifts and brightens even the darkest of brown eyes.
When used as part of a mascara duo, a white mascara acts as a primer and base to add bulk to your lashes without making them feel weighed down and heavy. It is the perfect first step for lashes that are long, voluminous, and luscious. White mascaras can also be used alone for a look that is unique and eye-catching.
