The 1:1.6 proportion is widely accepted as the "golden ratio" for beautiful lips. By comparison, an image showing a fuller lower lip (1:2 ratio) was perceived as less attractive, with an average rating of 2.16 out of 5.
If the shape of your lips is Full Lower Lip, you are usually the happy-go-lucky type and know how to have fun. You do not enjoy routines at all. You are not made for the 9 to 5 jobs. You strive well in careers that give you space to express yourself. You like to enjoy life and have a fun, energetic lifestyle.
The upper lip should be slightly larger than the lower lip with a gentle curve that peaks at what's called cupid's bow. The hinge of the upper lip comes in the form of the central philtrum that separates the two sides. Your upper teeth should also overlap the lower teeth by one millimeter.
It turned out that the picture on the far-left marked 'A' was actually seen as most attractive. Unsurprisingly to anyone with functioning eye balls, 'D', with a heavy upper lip, was the least attractive look. In fact, it was the heavier lower lip that was rated most attractive.
Lips come in a variety of shapes characterized by the upper lip to lower lip ratio. A 2017 study from JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery showed the most attractive ratio is 1:2 of upper and lower lip. An increase in surface area of 53.5 percent was also deemed most attractive.
The study polled over 1,000 people in 35 countries. Of those polled, 60% said they found a symmetrical, 1:1 top to bottom ratio the most attractive lip (think Scarlett Johansson). The next highest-rated, according to the poll, was a larger bottom lip compared to the top lip (like those rocked by Kylie Jenner).
Typically, if the lower lip seems to stick out further than usual, this can be a good indicator of a jaw misalignment, or “malocclusion”. Most importantly, malocclusions tend to be treatable with proper dental or orthodontic treatment.
Some studies actually saw that big lips contribute to a great extent to our attractiveness level. Why? It's all about the symmetry of course. As you might be aware, the more symmetrical your face is, the more attractive you will appear to other people.
'The research suggests that red lips and perceived attractiveness are still inextricably linked, with red lipstick proving to be the most powerful attractor and significantly increasing visual fixation.
Augmenting your lips with dermal filler would make them appear fuller and likely help change the proportion of your face. Your nose shape wouldn't change but fuller lips could help balance your features.
First impressions count, especially when it comes to the laws of attraction. And as shallow as it might be, research reveals the facial feature men find most attractive on a woman: her lips. So when you meet someone new and notice his eyes, he's actually looking at your lips.
You can reduce lip size by doing some exercises like tongue twisters, smile more as it will pull your lips and make them thinner. You can put your index finger in your mouth and move all 10 times, repeat for 5 times. Do the exercises in the days of alternatives.
A natural-looking lip enhancement can balance other facial features, bringing your face into better harmony. Changing your lips' size and proportion can make surrounding features like a prominent nose or jawline look smaller, creating a more feminine appearance.
The width of the lips should be about 40% of the width of the lower face and generally equal to the distance between the medial limbi. The width-to-height ratio of the face is typically 3:4, with an oval-shaped face being the aesthetic ideal.
The upper and lower lips are known as, respectively, labium superius oris and labium inferius oris. Both the upper and lower lip contains mucosal membrane, vermilion, and cutaneous surfaces.
The Golden Ratio
If we follow the Phi Ratio of Beauty, otherwise known as the “Golden Ratio” of 1.618, the perfect lips would be 1.618 times larger than the top lip and 1.618 times wider than the width of the nose. If you're determined to accentuate your lips, you may find it helpful to keep these proportions in mind.
Full Lips
Full lips are the most common of shapes and are typically defined by lips that are plump all-around on both the top and bottom, with no gap between.
Whereas the rest of the face may not show signs of getting older until patients reach their late 20s to 30s, lips can begin to lose important volume starting in the late teens. As the process continues and the mouth loses collagen, the lips can begin to flatten out and appear much thinner in just a few short years.
Additional genetic and environmental factors (think: trauma) and the aging process can also impact the size of the nose. Age, loss of collagen and elasticity, and an excessive buildup of skin can cause the size and shape of the nose to change. The nose width will often increase along with the size of the nose (2).
The change in size of your lips is most likely associated with your weight gain. If the fat was transferred from your abdomen your lips can enlarge as your abdomen enlarges with weight gain. Other factors can be the use of hormone replacement therapy or oral birth control which may lead to weight gain.
The possible science behind it
It is thought that females desire fuller lips because it signifies strong mating and maternal potential. Basically, the research indicates that we are more likely to be more affectionate towards an adult with softer, childlike features such as jutting cheeks or plumper lips.
Why are lips considered attractive? Full lips have long been desired by women because they signify youth and femininity. Evolutionary psychology also suggests that women with a full pout are often associated with a strong mating potential. One of the most visible signs of ageing is a pair of thin and flat lips.
Men prefer a woman who has less body fat and more muscle than that. She'll still weigh a fairly regular amount, but she'll be significantly fitter and more muscular than average, with a leaner waist, stronger hips, and broader shoulders.
Lip serum, lip plumper gloss, lip plumping powder and lip plumping balm all basically rely on one of three primary methods to deliver temporary lip volume: They irritate your lips, they use a circulatory stimulant, or they trap moisture in your lips to make them swell.
