Stubborn, short hairs left behind after waxing aren't much of a problem on areas like the eyebrows, upper lip and face. By giving hair a quick tweeze, any stragglers will be removed from the root of the skin ready to grow out for the next session.
Waxing removes hair from the root, which can cause temporary discomfort and a stinging sensation as the hair is pulled from the follicles. Additionally, the process may irritate the skin, leading to sensations of discomfort. Applying a soothing gel or cream post-waxing can help alleviate the stinging sensation.
This is normal (well, not the wax lady being rude) for your first time. Chances are those left over hairs are on a different growth cycle than the hair that was waxed away. Wait it out. It takes a few appointments for your lady bits to have the results you're looking for.
Why do I still feel prickly after my wax? We can break this down for you in bullet points: Your hair was not long enough. You are a fan of skin tight jeans or yoga pants and you wear them all day, every day.
Exfoliate: Use a gentle exfoliating scrub a couple of times a week to prevent ingrown hairs. Consider an Electric Shaver: If you prefer a quicker option, an electric shaver can also be effective for removing stubble, though it may not provide as close a shave.
Start by trimming an inch above your jawline, with a length setting one below the overall length of your beard. This will slightly trim the beard hair down to start the fade. Trim another inch towards the top length of your sideburns. Repeat this until you get to the top of your sideburns and hit your hair.
Petroleum Jelly: Helps moisturize and protect the beard. However, it should only be used by those who don't have beard dandruff as it can worsen the condition.
Many people who get their first wax after shaving feel disappointed immediately after the wax, or a few days later, as they can experience stubbly and sharp hairs. This is not a part of the regrowth cycle from a wax; it is merely some of your shaved hairs breaking through the skin.
If you're wondering whether to exfoliate before or after your wax, you can do both – but after waxing, exfoliating is a must. Two or three times a week will be enough to help you avoid the ingrown hairs and bumps that can come with regrowth.
It may take up to three waxing treatments to achieve smooth skin due to the fact that hair grows in stages and all of your hair is never at the same stage. It is very important to avoid shaving between waxing appointments, as this will interrupt the process and stimulate the hair growth again.
Due to this difference in hair growth cycles, waxing hair when it's too short will make some of the hairs grow back within a couple of days (and in an uneven, prickly wax job), and others not for a week or two. This can turn into a never-ending cycle of mixed growth patterns, ingrown hairs, and breakouts.
Why aren't my legs smooth after my wax? Dry skin and/or hair breakage. SO much of this can be prevented or reduced with exfoliating and moisturizing. When you wax an area of your body that has dry skin, when the hair gets pulled out, the dry, dead skin around that follicle gets disrupted and feels like a bump.
For most people, a bit of stubble begins to grow back after a few days. Shaving does not remove the hair from the root; it cuts hair close to the skin's surface.
Be Gentle with Your Skin: For the first 5-7 days after your wax, avoid exfoliating or using products with harsh ingredients. Focus on moisturizing and protecting your skin's barrier with products like barrier repair creams, Vaseline, or Desitin ointment.
Skin tears are treated by first controlling any bleeding. Then the wound is cleaned and covered with a bandage. Care will be taken to choose a bandage that doesn't cause further skin damage when removed. Simple skin tears usually heal in about a month.
After Care
*Apply Aloe, Aquaphor, anti-histamine cream or cold compress to calm the area and sooth any irritation.
But your hair grows in cycles, so if you are seeing short hairs pop up a few days after your wax, don't worry. That is normal.
Some people may notice a significant reduction in hair growth after six months to a year of regular waxing, while others may take longer. Patience and consistency are key when it comes to seeing the long-term benefits of waxing.
Both waxing and using a depilatory cream are options that target the hair follicle, meaning you won't get the stubbly feeling that results from shaving.
Exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells that can trap hair, leading to ingrown hairs and exacerbating the prickly feeling. Additionally, using a moisturizer or beard oil can soften the hair and provide a smoother texture, reducing the harshness of stubble against your skin.
Moisturise your pubic area
Using a conditioner is a quick way to soften prickly pubic hair. Applying the conditioner to your pubic area, leaving it on for a short period of time and then washing it away, is an effective way to soften coarse pubic hair.
There are no known side effects of using Vaseline for your hair. But it's a greasy substance, so it may cause your hair to feel heavier and oiler. If you use Vaseline on your scalp, it can cause build-up. To avoid this, use a light hand — a small amount of Vaseline goes a long way.
