Eyebrow tattooing is brute force. It uses a tattoo gun that is not only painful, but causes permanent damage and scarring to your brows. On the other hand, microblading artists draw each eyebrow hair by hand, just below your skin surface. The results are beautiful, lifelike and natural brows.
Tattooed brows tend to have more of a solid look, and appear as brow filler more so than your natural brow. Microblading creates a more natural end result compared to eyebrow tattooing, which results in brows that appear “drawn on” and flat.
Microblading eyebrows lasts 1 to 2 years. Eyebrow tattoos last forever. Regular eyebrow tattoos last a lifetime, but with microblading, ink is not placed as deep underneath the skin.
Although the procedure can take upward of 2 hours, most people report only feeling minor pressure or discomfort and less pain than a typical tattoo due to the use of a numbing cream. Of course, this will depend on your own personal tolerance to pain. Some level of pain or discomfort should be expected.
Long-Lasting Results: while eyebrow tattoos are not technically permanent, they can last several years! Some people may view this as a con, but the fact that the colour can fade over time can actually be a benefit as your style and hair colour does change as time passes.
Traditional tattooing uses a scraping method to get the design desired. Scalp micropigmentation uses a dotting and pointillism method where the practitioner places tiny dots into the skin to create the appearance of hair follicles.
The actual procedure could cost anywhere from $300 to $500, but it doesn't stop there. Follow-up appointments could cost you a further $100 to $150. You see, even though eyebrow tattoos are considered a form of permanent makeup, the ink fades over time.
Since these lines will look like real eyebrow hairs, this treatment will make your brows look thicker and more attractive. This treatment is not designed to permanently remove any of the hair in your eyebrows, so you might need to continue plucking your eyebrows after you receive a microblading treatment.
An eyebrow tattoo will not harm any existing eyebrow hairs, as hair growth is mainly affected by hormones, health, and to a lesser extent, nutrition. However in some clients, getting an eyebrow tattoo can possibly stimulate hair to grow in the area that the tattoo is done. When this happens it's a real added bonus!
Side effects of eyebrow tattoo
As with most of the tattoo procedures, an eyebrow tattoo is also likely to cause skin problems, especially inflammation, scratches, the appearance of red coloured bumps and sometimes trigger allergic reactions in the form of unusual itching.
Cosmetic eyebrow feathering can help you achieve the look you want and help you maintain it. If your brows are patchy and thin from previous plucking, you find makeup routines timely and costly or you simply want to enhance your facial features, eyebrow feathering may be for you.
No Eyebrow Tattoo Will Ever Look 'Natural'
Due to changes being made to your brows, any form of tattooing will never look 'natural'. As microblading blurs over time and can be more traumatic to skin, I chose to specialise in the powder/ombre technique.
Therefore, the answer to the question of whether you need to shave your eyebrows before tattooing is an unequivocal no. The same applies to the laser tattoo removal procedure. It is not allowed to traumatize the skin before the removal.
I never wax or shave off the clients natural brows. I tweeze a few hairs out if needed and trim the longer hairs to keep them tidy but apart from that we try to remove as little of the natural brow as possible.

Permanent makeup is considered micropigmentation, similar to tattoos. It involves using a needle to place pigmented granules beneath the upper layers of the skin. Tattooing and medical restoration, which corrects imperfections from scars and vitiligo (lack of natural pigmentation in the skin), are similar procedures.
While SMP is a needle going into your skin, just like tattoo, the levels of pain are nowhere near each other. The pain of the extra sharp needle and the shading is avoided with scalp micropigmentation.
The Hair Growing
Some people think that tattoo healing promotes hair growth, but that is not true in cases where there hasn't been any hair in the first place. But, what about the areas where there was hair, and you had to shave it? Well, a simple answer is; yes, the hair will grow back, regardless of the tattoo!
THE EXPERIENCE. Fading after your first appointment is also very normal. When brows are healing, they may scab, itch and completely disappear – this is normal!
Avoid getting the area wet for at least 7 days. This includes keeping your face dry during a shower. Don't wear makeup for at least a week. This is because the pigments are still settling into the shallow cuts in your skin caused by the blading.
