Both Aquaphor and Vaseline work for lips
Aquaphor can restore moisture to lips that are already dry. Vaseline is best used to prevent dry or chapped lips. The Vaseline brand does have other products that are formulated specifically for lips, with additional moisturizing ingredients like aloe and cocoa butter.
Aquaphor is best applied to wounded, tattooed, or dry areas of skin on the face. It's safe for most people to apply to their entire face one to a few times a day to help seal in moisture; however, there are no clear benefits to doing so.
There's no good evidence that lip balm is chemically addictive — in that it causes withdrawal symptoms if you stop. And there's no evidence that it dries out your lips, forcing you to use more over time.
“I always recommend using thicker moisturizing ointments like Vaseline or Aquaphor in colder weather. Lighter lip moisturizers like balms or Chapstick are generally better-suited for warmer, more humid months, when lips are less prone to drying and cracking.”
If you plan on using it all over the face it is best to use Aquaphor at night. This is a process called slugging, it helps lock in the products and promotes their benefits. Other ways to use Aquaphor include on the eyelashes and eyebrows, it can strengthen both and help them look shinier and healthier.
Do not use this medicine on deep wounds, puncture wounds, animal bites, or serious burns. You may apply Aquaphor Healing as needed. First clean the area to be treated. Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after using this medicine for 7 days, or if your condition clears up and comes back.
Apply a small amount of medication to the affected area and gently rub in, usually up to 4 times a day or as directed by your doctor or the product package.
Started using the aquaphor in the afternoon, and by that night, the peeling and cracking had decreased, and my lips were much more moisturized. By next day peeling and cracking were completely gone. I 100% recommend! The aquaphor lip ointment saved the day after I got lip filler for the for the first time.
See a dermatologist if your problem persists. Chapping that doesn't heal, despite regular use of lip balm, can be a sign of infection or a more serious problem, like cancer or a precancerous condition called actinic cheilitis.
At night, apply a thick layer of a super-restorative healing ointment like Aquaphor, which will go to work on dry, chapped lips while you sleep. In the morning, you'll wake up with lips that already look fuller (and softer).
The key to healthy lips is using a moisturizing product every day. If your lips are very dry, you may also want to exfoliate your lips 1–2 times per week.
While five times a day is a good starting point for the average lip balm user, certain groups of people may need to use it more often. For instance, if you live in a place with extreme heat, cold or wind (or all three), the weather may require you to reapply your lip balm to keep your lips smooth and hydrated.
If you have chapped lips or dry skin around your lips, use Aquaphor Healing Ointment as your dry lips treatment to relieve dryness and soothe dry cracked lips. It provides effective, long-lasting moisture, so lips look and feel healthier. It also adds a little extra shine.

Use the Aquaphor for the first 2-3 days then switch to a regular FRAGRANCE-FREE lotion such as Lubriderm, or any other fragrance-free brand. 5.
However, Aquaphor may not be the best choice if you are allergic to lanolin or have sensitive skin. Meanwhile, Vaseline may be better for those with sensitive and eczema-prone skin. Since the formula is 100% pure petroleum jelly, there is less chance of irritation or allergic reactions.
“The water-free formula creates a semi-occlusive, protective barrier on the skin that regulates the rate of water vapor loss and helps skin to retain the moisture it needs.” The formula includes active ingredients that work to accelerate skin regeneration.
Simply keep your skin moist with Aquaphor Healing Ointment. Re-apply as frequently as needed to maintain a continuous layer on your skin. Do not shower until the day after treatment.
Over-application prevents the skin on your lips from producing its own oils. "Too much greasy product can also lead to small spots appearing around the lip area," warns Dorrian. "If you're using a good quality, natural balm, a smaller than pea size amount is enough," she says.
Constantly applying these to your lips could cause long-lasting damage to your skin or otherwise dry out your lips instead of making them more moisturized.
Stay away from products that contain fragrance, camphor, menthol, and salicylic acid, because these ingredients can cause irritation of the skin, leading to disruption of the skin barrier and loss of hydration, which can make chapped lips worse, warns Zeichner.
