Make sure that you're applying plenty of colour, saturating the hair completely and rubbing together until you create a creamy foamy texture. Leave your colour on for around 15-30 minutes after application before rinsing off. For a more intense result, we suggest leaving your colour on for 45-60 minutes.
Comments Section Dry hair gives the most vibrant colour. This is because any water in the hair dilutes the dye. But it's also harder to apply to fully dry hair because it's not diluted by water even a tiny bit, so the dye is harder to spread evenly.
Uneven Results: Leaving dye in for too long can result in uneven color distribution, particularly if the dye has a different processing time for different hair types or colors. Staining: The dye can stain the skin, nails, or surrounding areas more if left on longer, leading to more difficult cleanup.
Not washing your hair helps preserve the colour, but when you want it gone, jump in that shower! Use A Strong Shampoo – A strong shampoo can help to strip the colour, but to preserve your hair's health, make sure that you use a good deep conditioner after cleansing your hair to nourish it and keep it soft and shiny.
The answer may vary depending on who you ask, but most hair experts recommend waiting at least 48 hours before washing your hair again. This gives the color time to set and prevents it from fading too quickly. After that initial 48-hour waiting period, you can start shampooing every 1-2 weeks.
Processing twice as long doesn't mean twice as much color. Almost all of the dye develops within 30 minutes. It will only get so dark, no matter how long you leave it on. Leaving it in for longer than recommended might give your hair a darker color and more intense tone, but it can also damage your hair.

Using our ammonia-free hair dyes means colouring your hair is safe time and time again. You will experience minimal damage to your hair throughout the colouring process with our semi-permanent dyes.
We often get the question: how long do you have to let the hair dye sit before rinsing it out? The answer is, you always have to let the dye sit for at least 35 minutes from the moment you've finished applying all of the dye. After 45 minutes the dye loses it's effect so it's no use letting it sit any longer.
If your hair is brown, you may need to bleach it more than once before you apply the grey dye. It's important you get your hair as light as possible before you attempt to turn it grey – this will help ensure a more even tone and vibrant, all-over colour.
Apply color to your roots first. Hair that's been previously colored is porous and soaks up color easily, but new growth requires more processing time. Leave color on your roots for the full time and only process ends for half the required time. It'll give you a nice even color from root to tip.
These drops are also fully inter-mixable with our Semi-Permanent shades for a stronger colour. Up to 30 uses per bottle. Increase the intensity of your red hair by creating a pigment mask. Add a few drops into a handful of any conditioner and mix (we recommend 2 drops per 20ml of Rainbow Conditioner).
We would recommend 2 bottles for lighter colours on short hair just so you can fully saturate each strand. 2 bottles for mid length hair - you need that full saturation and all important smooshing of the colour on your hair! Longer hair will need around 3-4 bottles to make sure every strand gets an even dose of colour.
Enhanced Color Distribution: Additional moisture from water can help hydrate areas of your hair that are on the drier side, which can enable a more even distribution of color since the dye won't be absorbed at different rates.
WASH YOUR HAIR
Whether bleaching to go lighter or not, to get the best results it's best to start with clean hair so shampoo your hair before colouring. Crazy Color works best on both damp or towel-dried hair, whatever you prefer.
If you want to fight the fade for longer, we have color-safe shampoos and conditioners made specifically to maintain our hair colors. Use cool water when shampooing and try to wash hair only once a week (the more you wash, the faster the color fades).
In general, you'll want to wait about 24 to 48 hours after dyeing your hair to wash it.
"If you leave your color on for too long, there is potential for extra deposit of pigment to occur. You can't make your hair too light by leaving a tint color on too long (unless you're bleaching), but it can make your hair darker than intended," says Tardo.
- Cool Water Only: Hot water fades colour fast: keep it cool or lukewarm when washing and be sure to use a shampoo for coloured hair that will protect the colour. - Less is More: Don't wash your hair too often. Use dry shampoo to keep it fresh between washes.
You might think that the longer you leave the dye in, the better the colour will be. However, that's a myth. Exceeding 45 minutes doesn't make the colour more intense. It can damage your hair, making it dry and brittle.
Hairstylist Brittany Gharring tells me you need two mirrors to apply color properly on your own. “Coloring the back of your head can be tricky. Use a handheld mirror to check the back of your head in the bathroom mirror as you color so you won't miss a spot," she says.
The key to fixing orange hair is usually to neutralise the orange with its opposite colour – blue.
