Most patients wear their compression garments for about two weeks after their facelift, neck lift, or neck liposuction procedures. This depends on several factors including the rate at which you heal.
Without compression helping your body reabsorb fluid, post-op swelling can linger much longer than necessary. Your results will look better overall. Compression helps your skin contract to its new contours, which is especially important for optimal liposuction results.
The compression garment must be worn 24/7 even when you sleep, you will be only allowed to take it off when you shower. It is recommended to have two garments, so you can have one for change. . Invest in a good quality garment as this influences the outcome of the surgery.
Howland recommends that patients wear them for 6 weeks: 2 weeks “around the clock” and then 4 weeks for half the day. How tight should compression garments be? A compression garment should support the body with gentle (but not excessive) pressure. It should flatly lay smooth on the skin, not bunched-up or bulky.
Dr. Howland recommends wearing compression garments as much as possible for the first 2 weeks after surgery. After this time, you may begin to wear the garment for half-day only, and this is recommended for 4 weeks.
By not wearing a compression garment, the risk of noticeable scarring and bruising is greatly increased. Even pressure from a compression garment can also ease pain from the surgery. Without wearing a properly fitted garment, discomfort is likely.
When used correctly, lipo foam reduces bruising and makes healing quicker and more comfortable. Typically, you wear Lipo Foam for 2-14 days post-surgery. But always consult directly with your physician for your recommended use.
Plan to wear the compression garment for three to four weeks following surgery. Resting – During the first week after your thigh lift, keep your legs slightly bent at the hips.

Facelift recovery time
You should look and feel normal after 2 – 4 weeks. Keep in mind that facelift surgery cannot stop natural aging, so we encourage patients to continue to take care of their skin and make healthy lifestyle choices.
For the first week post-op, you should continue to wear loose-fitting, soft, comfy clothes. Some women prefer to wear a soft, loose dress rather than a baggy shirt and sweatpants. Whether you prefer pants or a dress, we strongly recommend investing in a soft bathrobe.
How long should I wear a compression garment? This may vary based on your unique surgical procedure, but it's typically recommended to wear the compression garment for 6 weeks post-op. If it begins to irritate your skin, you may wear a camisole underneath for comfort.
Typically, a stage 1 post surgical compression garment is designed with zippers or eye and hook front or side closures. This helps to minimize friction and makes it easier for you to pull against tender skin and incisions. You'll find several types of stage 1 post surgery garments specialized by surgery type.
The compression garment you wear should be comfortable yet exert adequate pressure to support the healing area. It should not be too tight. Wearing too-tight compression garments causes it to bunch up, this, in turn, may cause the blood supply to be compressed.
In general, you can expect to make a full recovery from your procedure in about two to three weeks. A traditional face and neck lift addresses a larger area and a greater degree of skin laxity than other procedures, so recovery will take longer than more minimally invasive procedures.
While the recovery timeline can vary from patient to patient, most people are generally able to resume front or side-sleeping after 2 – 4 weeks.
A post-surgery compression garment should be tight enough that you feel held without being overly restrictive. If you find that you cannot walk or squat comfortably, then it may be too tight. In other words, a compression garment should make it comfortable to move around more without as much pain.
Generally speaking, most patients will need to sleep on their back with their upper body slightly elevated for about 2 – 3 weeks after facelift surgery. For patients who undergo a less extensive procedure, such as a mini facelift, it may be possible to return to side-sleeping sooner.
AT HOME AFTER THIGH LIFT SURGERY:
It is normal to experience bruising, swelling, numbness, soreness, tightness, burning, and drainage from your incisions. Swelling may occur for approximately 1-6 months, and numbness will continue to improve as healing progresses.
Recovery typically takes between 4-6 weeks, though some patients may require more time depending on their specific procedure. Most normal activities can be resumed after this time. Short walks and non-strenuous exercises are encouraged early in recovery.
