A typical recovery lasts less than two weeks as your skin heals and the filler settles into place. You should keep the injection sites clean and avoid touching the target areas until the filler is in its final position.
In some instances, patients may also notice mild lumps or bumps following JUVÉDERM™ treatment. These are uneven areas of the dermal filler settling in the skin. Like the side effects we've noted above, these lumps and bumps are generally temporary and resolve on their own.
The filler can take several weeks to soften and settle into your skin. This means that patients won't see the ultimate results of their treatment immediately. Although individual results will vary, many people achieve the full effect within two weeks after receiving their injections.
In reality, fillers take up to four weeks to “settle,” according to Healthline. Different types of fillers can settle more quickly, and your lifestyle and similar factors can also affect the amount of time it takes to settle.
Redness and swelling are the most common side effects after JUVÉDERM. Others may experience pain, tenderness, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, discoloration, and itching. You may recognize these side effects of other cosmetic treatments as well.
Swelling should go down within 2–3 days after your lip filler treatment, and should subside completely within 2 weeks post-treatment. In the meantime, there are some things you should do to help manage swelling and discomfort.
Drink plenty of water. HA based fillers such as Juvederm work by using the water naturally stored in our tissues, by drinking plenty of water after having a dermal filler treatment it helps the filler hold its chaos and last for longer. Juvederm actually attracts water from to keep your filler looking fresh and full.
Unlike other dermal fillers such as Sculptra, Juvederm does not significantly expand after injection. This allows Juvederm to create a smooth result and for the patient to immediately get an idea after treatment of the result that they will live with.
The day of your injection it is very important to avoid doing anything that can move the medication within the skin. Avoid any pressure on the injected area at all for the first 4 hours. 5. Some studies show that if you move your treated muscles frequently during the first 4 hours it may take effect a day earlier.
After 24 hours the skin is sealed again naturally at the puncture sites and you can go back to washing your face normally.
The treated area will feel different after your injections. It will likely seem fuller than usual due to the presence of the filler and post-treatment swelling. Some tenderness is also to be expected, particularly when the cheeks and temples have been injected. These sensations usually subside within a few weeks.
You can resume all normal activities the next day. Avoid facials or saunas for 4 hours after your treatment. Feel free to shower and go about most other regular daily activities.
There should be no problem using night creams after Juvederm. Just apply gently and avoid pushing on the area too hard.
AVOID: Alcohol, caffeine, niacin supplement, high-sodium foods, high sugar foods, refined carbohydrates (you may eat fruit), spicy foods, and cigarettes 24-48 hours after your treatment. AVOID: Vigorous exercise and sun and heat exposure for 3 days after treatment.
Dermal fillers are instant, so you can see a visible result immediately after injection. It takes up to 4 weeks for the filler to fully integrate into the tissue and some fillers are more cohesive than others.

At that time the filler is integrated into the tissue and will not move out of place.
Because these injections stimulate your body's production of collagen and elastin, the final results of treatment won't be seen for several weeks. Even as the hyaluronic acid is processed by your body, healthy collagen and elastin grow at a more significant rate.
Dermal filler doesn't 'normally', move after treatment. Immediately after treatment, in certain areas of the face, I do gently massage the area/s that were injected to help mold the product and prevent lumps. It does take about 2 weeks for the filler to settle and integrate into the tissue.
Swelling subsides, typically, within a few days. It's most apparent 24 to 72 hours after treatment before starting to subside gradually. Very occasionally, swelling can last from several days to four weeks.
Lumpiness is very common to feel in your skin in the days after injection of dermal filler into the face, including the upper lip body and the cheeks and the chin area and along wrinkles and folds when injected to lift these. It will usually resolve within a couple of weeks.
The most common cause of lumps after a filler treatment is swelling and bruising from the injections themselves. These should naturally subside within the first week.
Experiencing lumps in lips after injectable filler is extremely common—and lumps most often resolve naturally with time. Gentle lip massage 5-7 days after the treatment can help smooth any lumps and bumps in the lips.
Number of syringes varies from patient to patient but in our office and experience, the majority of patients doing lip injections only need 1 syringe to achieve the results they are looking for.
