Self Tan should ideally be left to develop between 4 to 8hrs (excluding Express) before showering off the tinted guide color to reveal your natural-looking tan. The developed color will then last between 3 and 10 days, depending on which product was used and how the tan is maintained.

Gradual tan is best applied once a day, or every few days depending on the colour you wish to achieve. It Is not recommended to apply gradual tan twice a day as this can cause the product to build up, too much product can affect how even your colour is.
The colour that is rinsed off in the shower is just the colour guide, and the active ingredients will continue to darken and develop for up to twelve hours.
Self tan doesn't stain, so don't worry if you're wearing a tinted tan and get some transfer on your clothes or sheets – it will come out in the wash!
Tanning tips: How to tan your face
Simply apply three spritzes of our St. Tropez face mist across the center of your face and allow it to settle onto the skin. Top Tip: You can apply our face tan mist over the top of your makeup or onto clean and dry skin. There's no need to rinse and no transfer.
Step 3. RINSE Shower off after 1, 2 or 3 hours depending on your desired shade. Step 4. GLOW Your tan continues to develop over 8 hours into your chosen shade.
For the actives in your self-tanner to do their job properly, they need to be applied to clean skin. This means skin free from deodorants, fragrances, and body lotion – unless you're actually a fan of a patchy tan… So make sure you shower first to remove any lingering prods that can interfere with your tanner's DHA.
For a deeper tan you should re-apply on successive days – 2 – 3 days in a row will give you a really deep, rich bronze tan. When you've applied your tan wear loose, dark clothing and avoid tight-fitting underwear. Anything that's pressing on the skin may make the results a bit patchy.

I've heard so many good things about this product and I FINALLY tried it out. I get why a lot of people like it. I like how it feels once it dries down and doesn't rub off on my sheets (as much as other products). I like the color it gives me, too.
After extensive testing, we determined the highest rated self-tanner to be the St. Tropez Self Tan Express Bronzing Mousse. It's an airy mousse that's easy to apply and blend and leaves you with a natural-looking glow. You can also customize the depth of color based on how long you leave it on your skin.
Applying at night gives your self-tanner time to develop a natural tan look. Things like showering, rain, or tight clothes can mess up your tan when it's trying to settle. And some tanning products will also stain! As the self-tanner process can take up to eight hours, applying right before bed is super convenient.
When you apply self-tanner to unexfoliated skin, it can cling to patches of dead skin, resulting in a streaky and uneven tan. Exfoliating before tanning provides a smooth and clean canvas for the tanning product, ensuring that it goes on evenly and adheres to your skin properly.
Use a hairdryer. Once you have the perfect coverage, grab your hairdryer to help it set. Be sure it's blowing cool air and move it along your body. Not only will this help the solution dry faster, but it'll also help to kick the tanning development process into overdrive.
