How Long Does Lip Filler Migration Last? The good news is fillers are only semi-permeant. Depending on how recently the filler was injected, the migration will last approximately 6-18 months. During that time your body will naturally metabolize and break the filler down over time if left alone.
Migration of filler is uncommon, but it does occur. Fillers usually get dissolved over time, regardless if it has migrated. HA fillers like juvederm/restylane/perlane they last about a year before they are absorbed by the body.
Will migrated filler go away on its own? In theory, yes, but the reality is a bit more complicated. When we dissolve fillers we inject an enzyme called hyaluronidase. Hyaluronidase is naturally occurring in your body and this is the reason that lip fillers will eventually dissolve on their own.

Filler Massage
The product will remain somewhat malleable for about a month after it has been injected. If you think that your filler has migrated to unwanted areas or isn?t as smooth as you? d like, massage is always an option.
So while the body naturally breaks them down over time, there is a way to speed up the process: Injections of hyaluronidase. Hyaluronidase is what the body produces naturally to break down fillers, so by injecting more, it allows the lips to regain natural shape quicker, usually going down within 3-4 days.
Dr. Nichols notes that because most fillers are semi-permanent, they will be metabolized and broken down; hyaluronic acid-based fillers for instance, take nine to 12 months on average to dissolve on their own. While it may not look great, lip filler migration, for instance, rarely leads to serious compilations.
Mild migration can create a subtle "ledge" beyond the border of your lip, while more noticeable migration can create more of a "shelf" or "plateau where you have almost a 'filler mustache' and you have a side projection that looks more ducky," says Dr. Durairaj.
However, due to the growing popularity of lip filler injections, this has unfortunately led to a higher chance that some treatments may not always go as intended. Bad injection procedures from undertrained practitioners can lead to lip filler migration.
It is important to wait this 2-4 week period before re-injecting with filler. This allows any inflammation to subside and for the tissue to completely heal so that the new filler will look its very best. I know it's hard, but wait it out! Dissolving filler costs start around $500.
“We see [misplaced or migrated filler] most often in high movement areas like the lips or the eyes,” says Brown. The lips may develop a “beak” or mustache appearance above the top lip or experience abnormal thickening from the filler settling in the wrong area that restricts natural movement.
The answer is Yes. Your swelling will subside in a few days and the hardness that you are experiencing with soften and smooth out. You can take bromelain for the swelling and continue to ice throughout the rest of the day today.
Not to worry though, lumps following a filler treatment are completely normal. The lumps you may experience are often caused by swelling and bruising of the treated area. We would not recommend massaging or using force to reduce the lumps yourself, as this may impact your final results.
The most common cause of lumps after a filler treatment is swelling and bruising from the injections themselves. These should naturally subside within the first week.
Frank says the best way to deal with migration is to dissolve the filler with hyaluronidase (an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid gels). In just a few hours, hyaluronidase softens the filler and returns the lips to a more natural shape, projection, and size.
What Causes Duck Lips? Duck lips aren't caused by the filler itself. Large, puffy, duck-like lips aren't usually the result of an allergic reaction or another issue with the filler. Instead, they're caused by overfilling the lips.

However, it must be stressed, however, that filler does not migrate from one area of the body to another. What being discussed on social media is simply so-called migration of a few millimeters within the same anatomical regions where it was injected.
It depends on the type of filler being used, your immune system, your doctor, and mouth movement. Juvederm is known to be the longest lasting lip filler and can last anywhere from 12-18 months. If you received a Juvederm lip filler, which is very possible, it is normal that it hasn't dissolved.
Massage can encourage the filler to be broken up by the body more quickly. But in practice this still takes a long time (like weeks of daily vigorous massage) to improve the outcome. This may also spread the product over a larger area causing more problems.
Although extremely rare, dermal fillers are able to migrate within the skin if consistent and adequate pressure is applied to them. For this reason, we advise patients not to get a facial, massage (on the treated skin), or microdermabrasion for the first two weeks following their filler injections.
Fillers remain moldable for 1-2 weeks, and pressure can deform your filler.
To dissolve lip fillers, you'll need to receive injections of hyaluronidase (Hyalase) near the filler. Hyaluronidase is a concentrated synthetic form of an enzyme that naturally occurs in your body. When injected, it begins to break down the filler, speeding up the dissolving process that would take place over time.
Answer: DIfferent fillers require different doses of Hyaluronidase. Juvederm and more particalarly juvderm plus require higher doses of hyaluronidase to dissolve compared to other fillers. If the lumps are truly filler it is most likely a dosage issue.
