During the treatment, we will gently move the SkinPen across the area where there are stretch marks with the tiny needles to create the micro-wounds. The length of the treatment will depend on the number and size of the areas being treated.
Most patients consider microneedling as a more affordable stretch mark removal than laser treatments. It is also non-invasive and uses your body's amazing ability to heal itself and restore the damaged skin.
Pull your skin taut with one hand and start dermarolling stretch marks with the other. Make sure you go over each area eight to ten times in one direction, and another eight to ten rolls in the opposite direction. Don't overdo it, though.
Microneedling reduces stretch marks by improving the collagen content of your skin. A session might take about 45 minutes and you might need two or three sessions to see results. After that, you might need a session every four to 18 months, depending on your circumstances.
The frequency of your treatments will depend on the length of your derma roller's needles and your skin's sensitivity. If your needles are shorter, you may be able to roll every other day, and if the needles are much longer, you may need to space out treatments every three to four weeks.
More collagen and elastin in the area help heal the damaged connective tissue that caused it. This is an effective way of managing stretch marks because, unlike the expensive creams on the market, microneedling can penetrate deeply into the skin.
Microneedling has been clinically shown to fade the appearance of scarring including stretch marks. Derma rollers gently open collagen fibers at the surface as they glide over the skin by breaking up the tough, stringy fibers that make up scar tissue.
According to the brand, in a consumer study, participants used the GloPro derma-roller three times per week and 97 percent reported improvement in skin's firmness, 93 percent saw improvement in the evenness of their skin tone, and 100 percent felt it helped stimulate their skin's natural collagen after just 30 days.
In two large studies, applying hyaluronic acid to early stretch marks made the stretch marks less noticeable. Tretinoin is a retinoid, which may also make early stretch marks less noticeable. In one study, people who applied this prescription cream every night for 24 weeks had less noticeable stretch marks.
If your stretch marks are relatively new, over-the-counter creams might be somewhat effective in helping fade them. But, if you've had your stretch marks for a long time, they might be a little more difficult to remove. Bottom line: stretch mark cream is not the miracle product that some people think it is.
Microneedling
To effectively treat stretch marks, you'll need to participate in more than one treatment over a course of months. Microneedling has been shown to be an effective treatment for reducing stretch marks, specifically for patients with darker skin.
