Stay Put During the Development Period If you are scared of sweating, use baby powder to keep the skin dry and the tan in place. Once the tan has developed, and the first shower has happened, the self-tanner will not transfer at all."
Stop your skin from drying out
Moisturise regularly to prevent your tan from fading unevenly. Hydrated skin will hold onto the tan better and keep it looking flawless for longer.
Your self tan will often transfer onto sheets and clothes due to sweat, as the sweat lifts the bronzers off your skin and allows it to rub into other surfaces. It can also transfer on to items of clothing that rub too closely, such as tight straps.
Regular maintenance: To prolong the life of your self-tan, it's helpful to keep your skin moisturized. Hydrated skin tends to hold onto the color better and fade more evenly. Applying a moisturizer or gradual tanning lotion daily can help extend the lifespan of your tan.
You can also set your tan with baby powder cornstarch he sort of try powder similar to how you would set your face make up. If you're going to sit your tan do your entire body and then wait 5 to 10 minutes before setting your tan with powder.
To ensure the best results, it's recommended to use a powder specifically formulated for use after a spray tan. We don't recommend slathering-up with cornstarch alone. We like Glowdry (a simple, non-nonsense formula with 4 ingredients) and our #1 pick, Azure Tan Drying Powder (due to its added skincare benefits).
Don't take very hot baths or showers as this encourages removal of the tan. Apply fake tan weekly to build it up. Use a wash off tinted lotion on your body or a tinted face gel to top up your tan if you don't have time to apply another layer. Use a bronzer on your face to intensify that summer bronzed glow.
We would recommend if sleeping in fake tan that you invest in tanning sheets (be it a fancy 'fake tan' specific sheets, old sheets you're not fussed about or a darker shade that doesn't show the tell-tale fake tan remnants so easily) and make sure you wear loose, comfy and fake tan friendly sleepwear to bed.
The quickest steps are the basic (olive, coconut or baby) oil, soak in the tub, then use an exfoliating body mitt and body scrub or the specialist products designed to remove fake tan efficiently.
ZERO TRANSFER: The advanced clear tanning gel formula means it won't transfer onto your clothes or stain your sheets. It's a clear self express tan that goes on clear - no rinse required.
Apply baby powder
Lightly dust your skin with baby powder using a large makeup brush. It'll absorb moisture and prevent the product from transferring. You can also shower after strenuous activities to wash off the sweat from your skin.
Once you have washed off your fake tan moisturise your skin daily to increase the longevity of your tan. Dry, dehydrated skin will cause your dead skin cells to shed quicker, taking the fake tan you worked so hard for with it. Use an oil-free moisturiser as oil can break down the product [2].
Skin Preparation: Shaving isn't just about hair removal; it's a form of exfoliation. By shaving a day before applying self-tanner, you ensure that your skin is smooth and free of any dead cells. This smooth surface allows the self-tanner to go on evenly and helps it adhere better to your skin.
Don't Wear Tight Clothing Immediately: Tight clothing can rub against freshly applied fake tan and cause streaking or smudging. Opt for loose, breathable clothing until your tan has fully dried and developed. Don't Forget SPF: Fake tan does not provide protection against harmful UV rays.
When you perspire, tanning solution will transfer to your hand, and cause staining. If you know you'll be sleeping with your hand between your knees, it's best to wear loose pajama pants and an oversized t-shirt. We also recommend laying a towel over your pillow to prevent any bronzer transfer from your neck.
Apply your tan
The best time to self tan your face is in the evening, as it allows the product to develop overnight. Consider it a part of your evening skincare routine. Start by cleansing the skin and removing all traces of makeup. Next, lightly moisturize around your nostrils and other dry spots.
Apply with a mitt
There are a few different ways to apply your fake tan, we would recommend using a mitt for a flawless application. Our Tanning Mitt has a lotion proof barrier to protect your hands from staining while also achieving streak free coverage with flexibility to reach all areas.
Many fake tans can be drying, so be sure to lock in moisturise with a super-hydrating body lotion or cream (more on this later). Avoid anything with anti-acne or anti-ageing ingredients like salicylic acid or retinol and apply your moisturiser to the skin while still slightly damp.
After You've Tanned
Use a hairdryer. Once you have the perfect coverage, grab your hairdryer to help it set. Be sure it's blowing cool air and move it along your body. Not only will this help the solution dry faster, but it'll also help to kick the tanning development process into overdrive.
After I put my tanner on it give it a good 10-15 in to dry off and then I put baby powder on my skin and it makes it basically not sticky!
