Like foundation, concealer will even out your skin. If your purpose is to hide marionette lines, dab your liquid concealer into the area around your mouth using a concealer brush or your finger until it has completely absorbed. Lastly, apply a setting powder all around your face using a large makeup brush.
The “gold standard” to fix marionette folds is to have a surgical facelift. This is because surgically pulling the folds back from the mid-face area and above is the best way to fix them.
As for the cost, it depends how many areas are filled and how many threads are used. The cost is about $200-300 for a pair of laugh lines or marionette lines.
What Is the Best Filler for Marionette Lines? In our experience, the most effective filler for treating the marionette line is either Juvéderm Ultra Plus® or Radiesse®, depending on the depth and configuration of the marionette lines.
Causes of Marionette Lines
Marionette lines, also known as oral commissure lines, occur when the depressor anguli oris muscle, or DAO muscle, pulls down the corners of the mouth, causing noticeable lines and a sad expression.
As Juvéderm® dermal fillers are largely composed of hyaluronic acid - a natural substance responsible for the creation of plump, hydrated skin - facial volume will be restored instantly and results will last for up to 12 months.
For moderate to severe marionette lines, dermal fillers can be injected into the corner of the jaw. This pulls away, or lateralizes, the fullness around the mouth resulting from fatty atrophy. As a result, the folds around the corners of the mouth are pulled away from the corner of the mouth.
A liquid foundation or tinted moisturizer is most likely to compliment a maturing complexion. Unlike powder formulas, liquid foundations are less likely to settle into your pores and fine lines. They're more flattering for aging skin, as they possess hydrating properties to naturally create that coveted dewy finish.
Active Ingredients. In addition to retinoid and retinol, Dr. Farhang recommends active ingredients such as lactic and glycolic acids. These are chemical exfoliants that treat skin tone and texture and reduce your chances of developing deep lines around your mouth.
StriVectin's skin care infused LINEblurFECTOR Instant Wrinkle Blurring Primer instantly fills and blurs the look of deep wrinkles while prolonging makeup wear.
Frownies Corner of Eyes & Mouth Patches lift and smooth "crows feet" around the outside of your eyes and smile lines (also called marionette lines). Frownies Gentle Lifts are designed for smaller areas of the face, perfect for lines around your lips referred to as "smokers lines".
In the case of marionette lines, a hyaluronic acid-based filler such as Juvederm can be used to restore lost volume for a plump and youthful appearance. Radiesse (another popular filler) instantly adds volume back into the skin while also utilizing an ingredient that stimulates the production of collagen over time.
Another option is laser resurfacing. Laser treatments are not as invasive as full cosmetic facelifts, though they are still considered a comparatively invasive treatment option. Essentially, laser treatments get rid of your marionette lines by removing the top layers of your skin.
After dermal filler injections into the marionette line area and lower face, side effects can include redness, swelling, and tenderness in the injection site. These effects usually subside within two days. Any redness and bruising can be camouflaged with make-up.
In some cases, marionette lines will first appear very early, as early as a person's late teenage years. In most cases, however, they won't become really noticeable until a person is in their 20's or early 30's.
Facial volume loss can create hollows, prominent jowls, deep nasolabial folds and marionette lines around the mouth, and other signs of aging. Even with a healthy skincare regimen, many weight-loss patients have a difficult time getting rid of these aging indicators.
Using a retinol or retinoid cream can help, too. "Retinol slowly thickens the deeper layers of the skin, while thinning out the superficial layers," says Levine. "This softens fine marionette lines, making the skin look more youthful."
The needle should be inserted approximately 1 cm below the lip and a linear threading technique should be used to inject filler along the lower lip and into the marionette fold.
Botox is useful for relaxing the muscles that pull down the corners of the mouth, while dermal fillers are the “go-to” treatment for erasing marionette lines because they are more effective in adding volume to the lower parts of the face. Doctors may also recommend combining both treatments to achieve the best results.
