For people who can't wait the three or four days for the wrinkle smoothing effects of botulinum toxin (Botox) injections to kick in, a new Northwestern Medicine study shows facial exercise after the injections speeds the change in appearance by about one day.
In fact, any type of fluid injection – even plain saline – into your body will affect the nerve endings. The first “true” results will be noticeable within 24 to 48 hours – when you'll see a softening of wrinkles.
The skin is starved of oxygen and – with a change in immune response, it becomes stiff and dry. However, primarily Botox users with cigarette-thin skin (caused by using too much Botox) will see true benefits of this therapy. For others, facial massage encourages facial muscles to eliminate Botox more quickly.
The results from Botox last anywhere between 2-6 months; the average result lasts about 3-4 months. Why does Botox eventually stop working? Your body makes new neurotransmitters all the time, so the “blocking” effect of Botox gradually wears off as these chemicals start circulating in your body again.
If you have treatments at regular intervals, then your muscles will become weaker over time. This means that the effects will last longer. Try to avoid the sun, especially on the day of treatment. Sun exposure boosts blood circulation, causing blood vessels to dilate, potentially dispersing Botox faster than normal.
The most common reason that Botox does not work is that not enough was given. Botox is not a one size fits all treatment and the same dosage does not work for everyone. Some individuals may need additional Botox to reach an effective level of muscle weakness. The Botox may also be old, overdiluted, or fake.
The reason for this delay is due to the time it takes for the body to start reacting to the Botox after it's been injected. Because of this, we like to have our patients come back after two weeks to check on their progress.
How many units of Botox are allowed on the forehead? For horizontal forehead lines, practitioners can inject up to 15–30 units of Botox. For “11” lines between the eyes (or glabellar lines), up to 40 units are indicated, with higher doses needed in male patients .
Consider Low-Intensity Workouts. High intensity workouts are designed to boost your metabolism in order to burn calories and build muscle more quickly. By raising your metabolic rate, you may be causing your body to metabolize the Botox more quickly so it breaks down sooner than expected.
Don't apply any Heat or pads as this increases the blood supply to facial muscles thereby prolonging the effects of Botox. Read Also Is a massage actually good for us?
Use more units of BOTOX
The most effective way of getting BOTOX to last longer is simply using more units. The way BOTOX works is by disrupting the release of chemicals from nerve endings. The effect fades because our nerves have the ability to create new endings in a nearby area of that muscle.
“Bunny lines” refer to the fine lines that appear on either side of your nose when you wrinkle it. Like many types of facial wrinkles, bunny lines are caused by repeating certain facial expressions. These lines can be a natural part of growing older, and some people find them charming.
Botox has the advantage of being around longer, making it a trusted brand. This means that most patients interested in injectables would opt for Botox. However, Xeomin is just as effective at reducing wrinkles in areas like eyebrows, the forehead, and around the eyes.
Don't lay down for the first 4 hours after having Botox
You might be sore or a little tired after having Botox injected, but you should avoid laying down for the first four hours after the injections. Both bending and laying down could spread the toxin and lead to bruising at the injection site.
When someone is receiving too much treatment with anti-wrinkle injections, the skin can become extremely smooth and the light bounces off in a uniform way. So, the skin appears shiny, which is why it can look 'frozen'.
In general, you can see the effects of Botox as early as 3 to 4 days after an injection. Dr. Oscar Trujillo, a facial plastic surgeon at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, says most patients will see results within 10 to 14 days but should wait the full 14 days to see the maximum results.
For example: Because Botox temporarily weakens or paralyzes the muscle, if one side of the face is still able to move causing a "stronger" and more elevated look, then adding more Botox in that area will help to relax the muscle and even the plane.
There is no definite age when you should start BOTOX®—it's more about the state of your skin, and everyone's timeline is different. For wrinkle treatments, it's best to start when you notice forehead lines, frown lines, or crow's feet even when your expression is neutral.
Drinking plenty of water can keep your skin hydrated and enhance the effect of hyaluronic acid fillers. After your treatment, we can recommend skin care products that complement the effects of your filler type.
External factors that prevent results from lasting longer include UV radiation and air pollution. Skin damage from free radicals can accelerate skin aging and diminish the results for Botox or fillers. Products that you put on the areas of injections can also play a big role. Everyone processes proteins differently.
Give the Fillers a Break
Be gentle with your skin, and don't scrub or push on your face during your skincare routine. When you move and poke fillers, they will break down faster, so the more delicate you are with your fillers, the longer they will last.
A pebbly chin, or orange peel chin, is defined as having a rough, pebble-like texture in the chin area. People with this concern have a bumpy, uneven chin that is caused by excessive flexing of the mentalis muscle, which covers a majority of the chin.
