Kybella does not tighten skin, but melts away excess under-chin fat, restoring youthful definition at the jawline. If your facial skin is still firm and elastic, it will contract on its own as the fatty deposits melt away. If your skin is looser, we can discuss the best approach for you.
Kybella® is a non-surgical method of helping you ditch a double-chin (whether genetic or otherwise) and improve the contours and definition of your jawline. To date, it is the only FDA approved injectable that is clinically proven to reduce sub-mental (under the chin) fat.
For Older patient whose skin is a little loose , after Kybella treatment, their skin usually gets tighter, but in case there will be small residual area of loose skin under chin, Dr. Avaliani can offer a treatment combination with Ultherapy, the one and only non invasive FDA approved skin tightening device.
A month after the procedure, most people have definite reduction in fat tightening of the skin in the treated area. This continues to improve over the next 3-5 months. Swelling tends to be milder with each subsequent treatment.
Answer: Maximizing Kybella Results
Staying well-hydrated and active will help to get your lymph flowing and mobilize the fat. I have found that doing a shock-wave treatment within a week of Kybella treatment helps maximize results as well-- find out if your clinic has a Zimmer Z-Wave or BTL Cellutone for this.
Many patients wonder how many vials of Kybella for jowls are necessary for a single treatment. Typically, 2 vials are used per treatment of the jawline and chin.
"The Kybella kills the fat cells so the fat won't come back in the treated area, but it still can come back, and it may come back in a new area," Mitchell says. "If you normally gain weight in the chin, it could come back in the neck post-Kybella, which may look unnatural. This can also happen with liposuction."
How Long Before I See Results? Results from Kybella injections are typically gradual. Targeted fat cells are usually removed from the area within four to six weeks after receiving injections, at which point patients start to see a noticeable difference to the appearance of their profile.
Kybella® is a non-surgical solution for submental fullness, more commonly known as “double chin.” In addition to treating moderate to severe submental fullness, Kybella® can help to sculpt the jawline by destroying the fat cells that lead to jowls.

Results are not necessarily immediate, but since the synthetic deoxycholic acid kills the fat cells it encounters, the results are a long-lasting sculpted profile that will leave you looking slim and beautiful.
Is Kybella Worth It? Of all cosmetic procedures on RealSelf, Kybella has one of the lowest “worth it” ratings with only 64% of patients who've had to procedure saying it was valuable.
Ultherapy (FDA approved to treat sagging jowls by lifting and tightening muscle and skin tissue ) or thread lift treatment are widely regarded as the best non surgical treatment for jowls.
Kybella can be used to treat the jowls – the fat or sagging skin that appears along the jaw line – or turkey neck, as well as double chins. Kybella injections help to permanently dissolve the fat cells that cause these issues.
Every patient is different, but in general, you should start seeing great results after just one Kybella treatment. Most patients need one or two additional Kybella treatments if they have thicker submental fat tissue.
The results of Kybella® injections happen gradually. You will start noticing changes in your appearance within 4 to 6 weeks. However, Kybella® typically takes about 3 months before you can see the full results.
Perhaps there is not as much fat in the area as thought. The fat could also be deep to the muscle; an area not affected by the medicine. Perhaps the injection is not reaching the target area (e.g. The needle isn't going deep enough).
KYBELLA® can cause serious side effects, including injection site problems such as bruising, hair loss, open sores (ulcers), and damage and tissue cell-death (necrosis) around the injection site or trouble swallowing and nerve injury in the jaw that can temporarily cause an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness.
Kybella can be used in older adults as long as the skin is not too loose.
Fat cells won't come back after they've been targeted with Kybella® injections. However, there is one important caveat. In order to enjoy lasting results with Kybella®, you'll need to maintain your current weight after treatment is completed and fat cells have been destroyed.
It's important to space Kybella injections apart. Not only does this allow the active ingredient time to target submental fat in the chin, but it also gives your body time to heal in between treatments. If you have too many injections too close together, this could increase your risk of side effects, like swelling.
Swelling, the most common effect after Kybella® treatment, will be worst during the first few days. Swelling can last two to three weeks. We space your treatments four weeks apart, so all the swelling has resolved before your next session.
In general, CoolSculpting is recommended if your double chin is caused by loose skin or fat deposits from weight gain. But when sagging muscles cause the condition in the neck area, then it may be better to try Kybella.
