Applying a thick, black eyeliner makes your eyes appear really small and beady — making you look older than you are. An easy solution to this problem is to switch your back eyeliner with a brown one for a softer and more youthful appearance.
As we age, our skin, especially around the eyes, gets looser. And that means that heavy, brightly colored makeup can get caked in the fine lines and wrinkles, making them appear more pronounced. They can also look dated, and like we are back in that '80s time warp.
Pulling on your corner of your eye, tugging at your eyelids and rubbing your eye cream too hard can contribute to the development of fine lines and wrinkles. Being gentle with your skin will cut back on prematurely aging your skin, but less makeup will have your skin looking younger.
"One of the most common makeup mistakes that makes people look older is using too much foundation," says Laura Roncagli, a professional makeup artist and co-founder of MyBeautik.com. "Foundation can make your skin look cakey and can settle into wrinkles, making them more obvious." Thankfully, avoiding this is simple.
Opt for a lighter eyeshadow rather than a dark, smoky shade on your eyelids and around the eyes, like Jenna Dewan Tatum. "Highlighting the corners makes eyes look brighter and fresh," says Ahnert. "Use a light color shadow in matte or shimmer to inner corner, lower lash line in outer corner, and the inner lid."
With age, that fat loses volume, clumps up, and shifts downward, so features that were formerly round may sink, and skin that was smooth and tight gets loose and sags. Meanwhile other parts of the face gain fat, particularly the lower half, so we tend to get baggy around the chin and jowly in the neck.
Look for an eye cream with anti-aging ingredients like caffeine, peptides, and vitamin E. Retinol is another great vitamin for mature skin, as it amps up collagen production to help minimize fine lines and crow's feet by your eyes. It also helps restore firmness in the skin to age you down a few years.
With age, the skin around our eyelids are more prone to lines and wrinkles, and you may see loss of density in your lashes. To bring back life to your eye area, Katsuk says matte eyeshadows are the way to go. “The general rule of thumb for smoother texture is to use more matte shades on the eyelids.
As a rule, less is more as we age. It would be more logical to think that more would be better to camouflage the imperfections; however, the opposite is true. A liquid foundation that isn't thick or dense will even skin tone without settling in the creases, making them more obvious instead of less.
A makeup artist once told us that harsh, thick eyeliner will age you like no other, especially if you only apply it to your bottom lash line.
Women of any age can wear eyeliner. There is no age limit to apply eyeliner.
Ditch liquid liners
Thick black lines don't do any woman over 35 any favours as it makes eyes that are already getting smaller with age look even tinier. And the rock-chick look is too harsh for ageing skin tones, so switch to brown or charcoal-grey.
"Keep the liner to the top lid for a more lifted, youthful effect." If you really, really want to go after your bottom lash line, Stiles recommends using a lighter color there than you're using on the top. "This will still give you definition, but feels softer and more flattering," she adds.
As the body ages, it tends to lose collagen. The first place where collagen loss is most noticeable is the skin under the eyes. The loss of collagen causes the eyes to settle back into the eye sockets, making the eyes appear sunken.
White to bright. “Use a white (or nude) kohl pencil eyeliner on your waterline for an instant eye lift. White eyeliner is a secret weapon to give the effect of wider, more awake and brighter eyes. Choose a water and smudge proof brand that will stay put all day.”
4. Opt for Matte Eyeshadow. While a pop of shimmer in the inner corners is always a good idea, Salgado says, those with mature eyes might find matte eyeshadow more longwearing and less likely to fade on mature skin. Stock up on matte eyeshadow palettes that are pigmented without emphasizing fine lines.
Eye shadows with too much glitter might feel young, but they can have the opposite effect. These shimmery sneaks are aging us. Instead of brightening up your complexion, they exacerbate the appearance of dry skin or fine lines.
That's because the skin here is different than on other parts of the body. It's thinner and more delicate, and so it shows signs of aging much faster than other spots in the form of fine lines, puffiness, eyelid sagging and discoloration.
These findings indicate that women who look young for their age have large lips, avoid sun-exposure and possess genetic factors that protect against the development of gray hair and skin wrinkles.
Drinking enough water each day replenishes your skin's tissue and cells, allowing for younger and healthier looking skin. Another key to maintaining a youthful appearance is to simply get some rest! When you sleep, your body continuously releases hormones that promote cell turnover and renewal.
The triangle of youth is what a youthful face is shaped like. It is light and a bit pointy on the bottom, naso-labial folds are moderate and the top part of the face – the eyes and the temples are full – there is no undereye hollowness and no temple hollowness.
