At 12, you may have a young girl's body or begin to look like a woman. At 15, you'll see less difference between you and your friends. At 18, you'll pretty much have your adult body.
When your teen reaches the age of 18, even though you may still think of them as children, under the law they have now achieved adult status. That status allows them to vote, serve in the military, serve on a jury, sign a contract, and get married without your consent.
For girls, the stages of puberty start around the age of 8. This may sound young, but we are seeing physical puberty changes start younger and younger and depending on genetics, you may even start to see puberty changes at the age of 7.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), “The hormones that change around puberty — starting between age 8 and 14 — and last until the early 20s when adolescence ends.” Your child might develop at a different rate than other kids. Teenage hormones are a part of adolescent development.
Generally, most girls reach their full height by the age of 18, as growth plates typically close after puberty. However, some individuals may experience slight increases in height into their early twenties, depending on genetic factors and individual growth patterns.
“Males can keep growing as long as their growth plates haven't closed, which usually happens by age 18,” explains pediatrician Joshua Coleman, MD. “But in rare cases, guys can grow a little more into their early 20s.”

For females an increase in body fat begins at 7 years and continues through ages 16-18 years. Studies indicate that the body's fat content must account for 17% of the body's weight before menarche can occur and that, at age 18 years, the fat content must be at least 22% for the maintenance of regular menstrual cycles.
When does puberty end? For girls, puberty typically ends around age 15 to 17 years. For boys, it tends to end around age 16 to 17 years. Again, every child is different, so these ages can vary.
