Most people are nude under those spa robes, but it's perfectly O.K. to leave your undies on if you feel more comfortable. Many spas also offer disposable underwear just for that purpose. You can ask for a pair when you're shown to the locker room.
Should I take my own robe to the spa? You are more than welcome to bring your own robe, however, this is not compulsory. Many spas offer a complimentary robe for you to wear during your visit, whilst other spas may charge a rental fee or request a deposit.
Spas want their guests to be as comfortable as possible, so non-restrictive garments - such as yoga bottoms, lounge pants, T-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies - are encouraged at most resorts. Trainers and sports shoes are often allowed too, but their use is likely to be restricted to dry areas, for hygiene reasons.
Stick with the essential oils the spa uses in treatments. On tipping: don't assume if gratuity is included that the therapist gets it- they don't always. Ask the therapist discretely if you can- many places will take an included gratuity off your bill if you request it. Then give the tip directly to the therapist.
Most spa treatments start with a consultation with your therapist (remember that you can choose between a male or female therapist!) where they'll explain what the treatment is about, which techniques will be used or if there's any particular zones you want them to focus on.
You'll want to strip down to just your undies. Take off your bra—it'll get in the way of the back massage and who can relax with underwire poking you anyway? Also, if it's just an upper body massage, you can leave your socks on, otherwise, slip them off so the therapist can work on your soles.
Ideally, you should aim to time your hot tub sessions to last between 15 and 30 minutes. Depending on the factors at play (i.e., water temperature), you might be able to extend your soak to 45 minutes. Keep in mind that you can always re-enter your hot tub later on!
Deciding to wear your hair up or down during a massage is up to you. The massage therapist can work around your hair with whatever option you choose. I find a lot of my clients with long hair wear it up while they are laying face down. After I turn them over, I request them to let it loose.
Do you need a fence around a spa in NSW? A core requirement in the Swimming Pools Act 1992 is for all spa pools in NSW to be surrounded by a child-resistant barrier. This law applies regardless if children are living on the property or not.
It is most important to shower before you use your hot tub to remove sweat, dead skin cells and personal care products such as cologne and deodorant. This reduces the work required from your hot tub filter and water care system to keep your hot tub water clean and balanced.
Since tips are standard protocol for massage therapists, you should assume a 20 percent tip in any massage or spa treatment situation (unless a self-employed therapist specifically tells you their rate is all-inclusive).
Take a warm shower
First, the warm water will begin allowing your mind and body to relax making it more open to receiving massage. By cleaning your body prior to a massage, you can also mitigate some personal hygiene insecurities, if you have any, plus it is greatly appreciated by your massage therapist.
How much should you tip for a $50 massage? The standard tipping rate for a massage is 20%. So, for a $50 massage, you can tip $10. You can increase or lower your tip depending on how satisfied you are with their services.
If your massage costs $80.00, find 10% by moving the decimal one digit to the left. Ten percent of $80 is $8. Then, double that $8 to arrive at your 20% tip of $16. (You can also use our tip calculator to determine how much to leave.)
Should I shave my legs before my massage or body treatment? Shaving is recommended but please be sure to do so no less than four hours prior to your scheduled appointment. Certain products may irritate newly-shaven skin.
When booked in a full-service spa a couple's massage will typically include access to showers, hot tubs, lounging areas, and other spa amenities. Many couple's massage treatments may offer special amenities such as champagne, chocolates, and fruit.
As a general rule of thumb, most hot tub sessions last between 15 and 45 minutes. If after 45 minutes you want to keep soaking, we recommend stepping out for a bit to give your body a break. Hydrate, rest and then enter the spa again.
Spa: For a massage or other treatment, 10% – 20%. Ask if the tip has been included, some spas will include a gratuity on your final bill.
Robes and towels are usually provided, but there are a number of items that you should take that you will be grateful for during your stay.
People who are ages 50 and older, have weakened immune systems and/or identify as former smokers should consider not using a hot tub or even sitting near one, says the CDC.
The value of well-made, high-quality hot tubs is immeasurable. They offer a wide range of benefits and save the time and effort needed for maintenance. They can also last for decades, which makes the costs well worth it. If you want a solid investment, invest in a quality tub.
