Now, female Sailors will have the ability to choose any hairstyle that meets uniform regulations and are taught how to properly wear their hair in a bun. Females requesting a haircut may still receive one.
Hair length, when in uniform, may touch, but not fall below a horizontal line level with the lower edge of the back of the collar. With jumper uniforms, hair may extend a maximum of 1-1/2 inches below the top of the jumper collar. Long hair, including braids, shall be neatly fastened, pinned, or secured to the head.
When wearing the uniform or in a duty status, hairstyles/haircuts will have hair off the ears and above the collar. Hair will be no more than 2 inches in bulk, 4 inches in length and not to extend below the eyebrows when headgear is removed or show underneath when headwear is worn.

Minimum hair length
Under the current policy, a Soldier's hair length can be no shorter than 1/4 inch from the scalp unless otherwise exempt due to a medical condition or injury.
The new regulations also allow the exact opposite. Female soldiers going through Ranger or special operations training get their heads shaved, like male soldiers do. But when they leave training, their hair is too short, based on the Army's previous minimum length requirements.
Except for the Navy, women do not have to get their hair cut. However, when in uniform (which is all the time in basic training), women must wear their hair in such a way that the hair does not protrude past the bottom of the collar, and is not below the eyebrows.
No minimum hair length. Allowing multiple hairstyles for women, which were previously limited to buns for longer hair. Allowing earrings to be worn with the Army Combat Uniform (ACU)
Bases have stores with menstrual products available.
Many troops live on them—sometimes with their families! —so there are restaurants, post offices, and stores known as “exchanges” that sell hygiene products (among other things), including tampons and sanitary pads.
Hair (to include bangs) will not extend below the eyebrows. No portion of the bulk of the hair as measured from the scalp will exceed two inches. (Except a bun, that may extend to a maximum of three inches from the scalp and may be no wider than the width of the female's head).
Men have their heads shaved to one-eighth of an inch when entering training at Great Lakes, Newport and the Naval Academy — as has been a requirement and a ritual for decades.
The hair length may be no shorter than 1/4 of an inch but can be evenly graduated to within two inches of the hairline. Women with short hair can now wear their hair with twists, something that was previously only allowed for female Marines with medium-length or long hair.
The induction haircut has both practical and psychological purposes. Originally, one of the reasons for the induction haircut was to reduce the chances of disease among closely quartered recruits from different geographical areas (with varying immunities), such as head lice.
The wear of a single braid, French braid, or a single ponytail in Service, Working, and PT uniforms is authorized. The initial accessory for the ponytail will not be visible when facing forward. More information on hairstyle standards and other uniform regulations can be found on the Navy Uniform Matters Website.
Army Makeup Regulations
Unless medically prescribed, men still can not wear makeup. These makeup policies apply to female soldiers: Women can wear makeup in all uniforms. Makeup should be modest and conservative.
"She-Marines" (TIME, June 21) was frowned on, too. But the eventual development of some unofficial nickname was certain. Last week the Corps had it: BAMs. In leatherneck lingo that stands (approximately) for Broad-Axle Marines.
Women soldiers may also wear nail polish and lipstick as long as the colors present a professional appearance and are not “extreme.” Extreme colors include blue, black, gold, white and bright colors. Men may also wear nail polish as long as it is clear.
Remember your recruiter will give you a list of required items. Female Specific: Sanitary napkins/tampons (1 pkg.) You should bring enough civilian clothes to last about 2 days.
People may wish to delay or skip a period for certain events or occasions. However, there is no guaranteed method to delay a period. For those not taking the combined oral contraceptive pill, a doctor can temporarily prescribe a form of progesterone called norethindrone.
Can we carry tampons/pads on our person? Yes, you can! It's one of the only items you can put into your pocket.
Bangs may not extend below the eyebrows. When worn in a bun, the bulk of the bun shall not exceed three inches when measured from the scalp. The diameter of the bun will not exceed four inches, and all loose ends must be tucked in and secured.
