Generally, when the lash extensions are long, they create a lot of space in between making it look sparser. When you keep the length short, the gaps reduce, making the extensions look fuller and fluffier.
Shorter lash extensions can look fuller or more natural but that doesn't mean they're better. The best length is the one that'll suit the natural lash length and personal style.
By dropping down in length in-between each normal extension you're placing on, especially through the centre of the eye will make the set look darker and fuller. For example, the basic length you are doing the set is an 11mm. In-between each 11mm put a 9mm on every second or third lash.

The lashes could also be too heavy, thus preventing lash follicles from growing healthy lashes. Therefore, when choosing eyelash extensions, the rule of thumb is that the extensions should be at 3mm-5mm longer than your natural lashes.
Eyelash Extension Length
Generally speaking, shorter extensions of 5-9mm are used for inner corners or under eyelash extensions, and 9-13mm extensions are used for the majority of the set. Some artists mix longer lengths from 14mm or longer lashes to create a Hybrid eyelash extension.
Personally, I would always choose silk or faux-mink over synthetic, to create a natural look. Softer and more flexible, less stiff and plasticky looking, they usually last longer as well. It may take more of them to create the dramatic look of synthetic lashes though, which some people do love.
Your lash extensions poke, twist around and irritate your eyes. This happens when a lash extension hasn't been properly applied to your natural lash or the extensions are too long causing the extension to spin, twist, droop and turn.
Most eyelash extensions look great for anywhere from 2-4 weeks. During that time, the extensions will still look and feel full and fluffy. After your lashes stop looking and feeling great, you'll need to return to your lash artist for a touch-up.

Most people think that cat eye effect has longer lashes on the ends however this can result in the extensions weighing down the natural lashes, therefore giving droopy eyes. In order to give “lift” you should use shorter extensions towards the end of the lash line.
Eyelash extensions are, hands down, the most effective way to achieve the look of bigger eyes. Eyelash extensions can open up your eyes and add drama to your look, and they are a much better option than false eyelashes because they last a lot longer and look a lot more natural.
