In short no, lip injections aren't painful. The procedure is generally pain-free. A topical numbing cream is applied to the injection sites prior to the procedure and reduces how much you feel. If you have any concerns about pain and discomfort, you can discuss this with your practitioner prior to the treatment.
The numbing feeling will go away within a few hours after treatment. Pain tolerance does vary from person to person but most patients find that the treatment is more comfortable than they expect!
Numbing cream can help reduce the pain of injections for your child. Although your child will feel much less pain from needles with numbing cream, they may still notice some sensations, such as pressure.
The result is less discomfort than a needle injection, which is why a lot of clients prefer this method - it causes less anxiety and trauma to the area, so this is ideal for anyone considering filler that is afraid of needles and causes minimal to zero bruising.
What happens during a lip filler procedure? During a lip filler procedure, your healthcare provider will apply a topical anesthetic to your lips. The topical anesthetic will numb your lips so you won't feel any pain and the process is as comfortable as possible.
Pain, redness or itchiness at the injection site is also normal, and should be mild. If you experience severe pain, redness or itching, or pain outside of the lip area, see your doctor. Overfilling is a concern for some patients, especially in the first week after treatment when lips are still swollen.
As lips are one of the most sensitive areas of the body it is normal to have tenderness and swelling post injection. However, extreme pain can be a warning sign. When injecting the lips it is possible to inject into or around an artery causing a vascular occlusion, which would cause intense pain.
Do fillers hurt? Getting filler is a little bit uncomfortable, but at VIVA, we use the safest techniques which also ensure minimal pain. We will also always use a topical Topical anaesthetic to numb the skin prior to injection.
One way to decrease some discomfort is to apply numbing cream or apply ice pack prior to injection. It will not take away all the discomfort but make it more tolerable. The product has a local anesthetic in it to reduce discomfort.
Most patients receive only local anesthesia for fillers. However, if you are feeling anxious or wish to be more at ease during the procedure, we can perform treatment using IV sedation. We may also use a topical numbing cream.
Use Local Numbing Gels:
If you generally have a phobia of needles ask your dentists to provide numbing gel and to give it adequate time to work before using the injection. If you are so numb that you won't feel the injection that can help make the procedure much less painful for you.
There is some discomfort associated with both procedures
Fillers cause more discomfort than Botox injections, and there is a slight risk of swelling and bruising after the procedure. However, both procedures are relatively safe.
Can you kiss just after getting lip fillers? Unfortunately, we recommend not kissing straight after getting lip fillers. This is because kissing can apply a lot of pressure to the lips and increase risk of infection due to the number of bacteria on lips.
Lidocaine is the most common anaesthetic agent used for lip fillers. This is because of its relatively fast onset time (approximately 3-5 minutes) and its duration (approximately 1-2 hours) which is appropriate for most filler procedures.
Lip filler may cause the treatment area to feel swollen, hard, or lumpy at first, but this is all part of the healing process, and the fillers will soften and settle over time.
The results consistently deliver a smooth, even, natural appearance. The procedure takes just a few minutes in the office, and the results are immediate. You may have minimal swelling in the injection area or across your lips at first, but once that subsides, you should not be able to feel the filler in your lips.
Paraesthesia : usually nerve damage does not happen during filler injections, but rarely a needle may pierce a nerve, also causing intraneural filler injection or compress a nerve branch. Excessive molding of filler may also squeeze filler into a foramen leading to compression of a nerve causing paresthesia.
Answer: Pain
Certain areas of the face are more sensitive to filler treatment. Juvederm products are available with lidocaine mixed in to make the treatment more comfortable. The lips tend to be the most sensitive. In general patients find the administration tolerable and the results are worth it.
Adjusting to Your Filler
It's normal for your skin to feel and look very full immediately after you receive your injections. For instance, if you used hyaluronic acid fillers to create moderate enhancements in your lips, these facial features may look very plump for a couple of days.
You are not allowed to smile for a few days after a lip filler. Facial expressions such as smiling, laughing, or frowning should have zero impact on your lip filler. It is actually better for you to smile and gently massage your lips, to help spread the product and produce a more natural end-result.
Your lips will be swollen at first, but you'll see the effects of the fillers quickly. The swelling can take 1-3 days to go down. 6. If done correctly, injected lips don't feel any different to real lips; even when you are kissing (once the swelling goes down).
