We advise against having filler around the time of the month as the injections tend to be more uncomfortable despite local anaesthetic and there are far more episodes of patients feeling feint, or nauseated following the injections, during this time.
Answer: Botox during Menstrual Cycle
It is possible you might be slightly more sensitive to the injections or more prone to bruising, but the difference is not usually substantial. Make sure you are working with a board-certified dermatologist and Botox expert to ensure your treatments achieve an optimal result.
As lips are one of the most sensitive areas of the body it is normal to have tenderness and swelling post injection. However, extreme pain can be a warning sign. When injecting the lips it is possible to inject into or around an artery causing a vascular occlusion, which would cause intense pain.
After 12 to 24 hours, your pain should go away. Your swelling should go away after 24 to 48 hours, but it may take up to a week. If you want your lips filled before a big event, like a wedding, you should schedule the procedure at least two weeks ahead of time to make sure you've completely recovered.
Fillers come in pre-filled syringes, usually with 1 mL per syringe. To avoid duck lips, stick to one syringe per treatment. Honestly, some times we won't even use the whole syringe to avoid the risk of duck lips.
The good news is that the swelling in your photos appears to be a normal side effect of lip fillers and should gradually diminish on its own over the next two weeks.

The third day after your lip filler appointment is when you'll start to get an idea of what your lips will look like. You should start to feel more comfortable as the swelling should be gone, and it should feel much more normal and comfortable eating and talking.
Can you Kiss After Lip Filler? Kissing can apply a lot of pressure to the lips and increase risk of infection (there is a lot of bacteria in the mouth!), so it is best to avoid kissing for 48–72 hours after getting lip filler treatment.
There is some discomfort associated with both procedures
Fillers cause more discomfort than Botox injections, and there is a slight risk of swelling and bruising after the procedure. However, both procedures are relatively safe.
Answer: Pain
Certain areas of the face are more sensitive to filler treatment. Juvederm products are available with lidocaine mixed in to make the treatment more comfortable. The lips tend to be the most sensitive. In general patients find the administration tolerable and the results are worth it.
Apply ice to your lips afterward using an ice pack or an ice cube covered in a thin cloth (so it doesn't stick to the lip and cause pain). This will help ease swelling, itching, bruising, and any other pain. Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours after you get lip or any other dermal fillers.
Waxing or shaving
When you're on your period, avoid hair removal. The area is sensitive and the pull of the wax strips can hurt, adding to your discomfort. Shaving can prove to be an extremely messy affair due to the period flow. In case you end up with a cut due to the shaving, it might lead to infection.
Fat freezing
While it is perfectly safe at any point in your cycle, increased sensitivity and propensity to bloating may make you consider rescheduling. Some common side effects of the treatment are tenderness, swelling and bruising, which may not be ideal if you are already suffering from menstrual cramps.
Patients tend to report that lip swelling is the worst the first day after their injection, particularly in the morning. Swelling should go down within 2–3 days after your lip filler treatment, and should subside completely within 2 weeks post-treatment.
You are not allowed to smile for a few days after a lip filler. Facial expressions such as smiling, laughing, or frowning should have zero impact on your lip filler. It is actually better for you to smile and gently massage your lips, to help spread the product and produce a more natural end-result.
Is 1ml Of Dermal Lip Filler A Lot? 1ml of dermal filler falls within the average amount. It still creates a natural increase. Everything over 1ml creates a more dramatic look, and this is something that should be taken into consideration by patients.
Avoid overfilling
Even though dermal injections usually come in 1mL syringes, you should avoid using the entire syringe in one appointment.
One syringe of filler you can expect slightly plumper lips with a smoother appearance. We use fillers like Restylane and Juvederm to create natural looking and feeling lips enhancement. Two syringes of dermal filler will get clients noticeably smoother and plumper and for some clients a true volume change.
Avoid tweezing, bleaching, waxing, and even hair removal cream around the lips. Day before: Don't drink alcoholic beverages one day prior to lip injections, and avoid any blood thinning over the counter drugs such as Aleve, ibuprofen, aspirin, Motrin, and so on.
The upper lip should be slightly larger than the lower lip with a gentle curve that peaks at what's called cupid's bow. The hinge of the upper lip comes in the form of the central philtrum that separates the two sides. Your upper teeth should also overlap the lower teeth by one millimeter.
What Causes Duck Lips? Duck lips aren't caused by the filler itself. Large, puffy, duck-like lips aren't usually the result of an allergic reaction or another issue with the filler. Instead, they're caused by overfilling the lips.
