There are two ways to train your curls: finger coiling or twisting strands of hair together. This is a personal preference; experiment and do what works best for you! I usually leave the deep conditioner in my hair for 45-60 minutes. I found that it is best for me to use a protein treatment.

Be consistent
Like everything in life, success takes time. Commit to a minimum of six months being consistent on your curly journey, and I promise you will be shocked at how much your hair is capable of.
3A hair is made up of well-defined and springy curls that have a loopy, “S” shaped pattern. Their circumference is the size of a piece of sidewalk chalk. 3A ringlets have a fine to medium texture. This curl type benefits from lots of body and movement, but is prone to frizzing and dryness.
To make 4C hair curly, the first and most important step is to ensure your 4C hair is well moisturized. After moisturizing, lock in the moisture then proceed to use various curl defining techniques such as twist-out, finger coiling, braid-out and shingling to make the hair curly.
An increase in androgens in females can actually change the shape of the hair follicle from round to flat and this can instigate a change in texture from straight to curly.
Curl Activators
If you have straight hair, then a curl activator will not make your hair curly. Curl activators are typically used for Type 3 Curls. Curl activators usually do not offer any hold and are meant to be layered under a holding product, such as a gel.
However, in curly hair, the way that the cells divide and produce certain proteins is asymmetrical and correlates with the bends in the curved follicle. This results in a hair fiber that has an elliptical shape, which allows it to curl.
During puberty, the hair follicles can change and cause your hair to become curly. Your hair follicle shape is determined by your genes but curly hair isn't necessarily a dominant gene. Hair type is an interesting case of something called incomplete dominance meaning neither the straight nor curly gene is dominant.
Hormones are a possible trigger for the curly hair gene. As well as affecting the quality of your hair, hormones can change your muscle tone too. This includes your scalp. The change of muscle tone could affect the shape of your hair follicles and their direction of growth.
If your curls are inconsistently defined, you might be… using too little product. If your curls tend to look inconsistent – defined in some places, frizzy in others – you may not be using enough gel or styling cream to coat every strand.
The only time lack of curl definition is a sign of damaged hair is if your hair has experienced heat damage, which is irreparable. If your hair was once full of ringlets and now it's full of frizz after using heat styling tools, then you have likely experienced heat damage.
Since your hair texture is hardwired in your DNA, there isn't much you can do to change your hair texture from one type to another. What you can do however is improve the current texture of your hair to guarantee that it's the healthiest possible.
