You may overlap two dressings if necessary to cover large and/or multiple areas of skin damage.
You can cut the tegaderm to fit, or overlap them for larger areas. The first layer is applied the day of application, left on for 24 hours, then removed, washed, and air dried. The second layer you will apply the same way, after it has air dried, using the ointment and tegaderm, but left on for 3 full days or 72 hours.
when i did my half sleeve (4 sessions) I found that patches of overlapping saniderm worked best. Your arm isn't symmetrical and using large pieces creates a lot of air bubbles. It works fine if you overlap. Just don't use pieces that are too big.
3M™ Tegaderm™ Transparent Film Dressings can be used to cover and protect catheter sites and wounds, to maintain a moist environment for wound healing and to secure devices to the skin.
No, you cannot apply saniderm once the traditional healing/ peeling has begun.
It is perfectly normal to use up to four pieces of Saniderm during the healing process. When changing pieces, make sure to leave a gap of no more than 30 minutes between removal and reapplication. Wash and pat dry with a clean paper towel or allow to air dry before applying your next bandage.
You should note that saniderm/Recovery-derm/ Tegaderm are all the same thing, just different brands.
6 Precautions: • Nexcare™ Tegaderm™ Transparent Dressing is NOT to be used on dirty, contaminated, bleeding, infected, or punctured wounds. Consult your medical provider if you notice any itching, burning, rash, or signs of infection: fever, pain, redness, or swelling.
Tegaderm is great for tattoos because it is low-maintenance and can reduce healing time. It is water-resistant, so you can shower with it on, but try to keep it out of the water as much as possible and keep soaps/body products away from it.
Can you leave a Saniderm bandage on for too long? Yes, you can leave a Saniderm bandage on for too long. In fact, this is not recommended because your tattoo may not receive enough oxygen to properly heal and can become infected.
Clean, rinse and dry the tattoo thoroughly. Cut the SecondSkin™ to the desired length and shape, using multiple pieces overlapped at least one inch if needed. You should account for an extra inch on each side of the tattoo to cover un-tattooed, dry skin. “Crack” the wave by bending the piece in half at the blue stripe.
In general, Tegaderm should not be left in position for longer than seven days. This is particularly important where the dressing is being used to retain an intravenous catheter.
Nexcare™ Tegaderm™ Transparent Dressing¬ lets you bring hospital grade products home to your family. Low profile, this film dressing adheres to your skin to completely shield your injury from water, dirt and germs, while allowing your wound to breathe.
If your artist bandaged your tattoo with a clear adhesive film like SANIDERM or TEGADERM, you can leave the film for up to 3 days. There may be a lot of fluid that builds up in the film and that's okay as long as nothing leaks in or out of the film.
Use a transparent dressing, such as Nexcare Tegaderm or Waterproof, to keep your scrape or abrasion moist to improve healing.
Healing your tattoo with Tegaderm
3) For the first few days, avoid any exercise that could lead to excessive sweating. This will help keep sweat from accumulating under the bandage. 4) Be aware that a fluid/film of excess ink and plasma will accumulate under the bandage. It may leak out from a corner of the bandage.
Dressing may be left on for extended periods (up to 28 days). Change dressing if it is leaking, lifting off or if there is wound fluid under the adhesive border. If there is leakage within the first 4 days, a more absorbent dressing is likely needed.
If fluid is leaking out of the Saniderm bandage, this indicates a break in the seal of the adhesive. At this point, the tattoo is no longer being protected and is vulnerable to potential contaminants. Remove the bandage, clean the tattoo, and apply a new piece of Saniderm.

As long as the dressing remains occlusive, and no drainage comes out, there is little concern about infection. The fluid is produced by your body, and is a natural response to the wound. When should I call my doctor? If there is an excessive amount of fluid under the Tegaderm, call our office to discuss with the nurse.
If you find the tattoo weeps into the second piece, remove it at the next 24 hour period. Then wash the tattoo, apply aftercare if needed, and apply a third piece. This third piece can be worn for up to 5 days. Saniderm should not be worn for more than 7 days total.”
By using the body's natural repairing fluids to keep the wounded area in a hydrated state, Saniderm accelerates cell recovery and therefore heals your tattoo faster. Saniderm bandages are made from high-quality materials and are composed of three primary components.
