When having PRP therapy applied as a topical serum for skin concerns, it is likely that your provider will recommend avoiding strenuous physical activity and exercise for about 48 – 72 hours after treatment.
Exercising and Sweating
We advise patients to avoid sweaty exercise right after microneedling, as it can contribute to irritation and swelling while potentially exposing the skin to bacteria.
Do not exercise or participate in strenuous activity for the first 72 hours post-treatment. Sweating and gym environments in general are harmful and filled with bacteria, which may cause adverse reactions in your skin.
Skin that is well-cared for and in good condition will gain the best results. We recommend you have a good skincare routine established at least 2 weeks before commencing a course of micro-needling. Cleansing, toning and moisturizing morning and night with a good sunscreen used daily would be the absolute minimum.
You also will want to stay clear of using any exfoliating skin tools (for one week) or undergoing any cosmetic practices (for at least two weeks) during the healing process. Caffeine, alcohol and processed foods dehydrate your skin and can slow your body's healing process.
Do not consume alcohol in the seven days following your treatment. Alcohol is a diuretic, meaning it has dehydrating properties. Unfortunately, being dehydrated will slow your skin's healing process drastically.
Hyaluronic acid serums should be used post-microneedling. Use this from days 1 to 14 after microneedling to hydrate and replenish the skin. After 1 to 4 days, you can apply hyaluronic acid, toners, or moisturisers with a base of green tea extract, Vitamin E, kiwi oil, and linseed oil to the skin.
Discoloration caused by skin needling is rare, but can occur if the needle depth is 1.5 mm or deeper, and the procedure is done too frequently. This negligence can cause irritation in the skin which can be one possible cause to post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.
Avoid saunas, steam rooms and hot baths or showers until the redness is gone. -Avoid waxing and any other skin care treatment for two weeks following the treatment. -After 2-3 days you can return to regular skin care products or as soon as it is comfortable to do so.
For a minimum of 5 hours after the PRP has been applied to your skin, do NOT: wash your skin, expose the treated area/s to direct high heat, or engage in activities that will get you wet or cause you to sweat (e.g. blow dryer, sun exposure, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi, very hot shower, hot yoga, strenuous exercise, etc. ...
How Often Should You do Microneedling Treatments? As a general rule of thumb, microneedling treatment can be safely done about once a month or every 4 to 6 weeks.
Microneedling can cause bleeding so it may not be suitable for people with clotting or bleeding disorders, or who take medicine to thin their blood. You may want to avoid microneedling if you have conditions that affect your skin, such as eczema or diabetes, or if you have a weakened immune system.
