Answer: No. If you want a tattoo removed it needs to be done by laser. If you are using tretinoin on a area with both acne and a tattoo it will not effect the ink which is deeper in the skin.
Accutane/Retin-A - If you have been taking acne medications such as Accutane or Retin-A within the last year you have an altered skin condition that will not heal well after the procedure. It's very important that you wait 6 months before tattooing the skin.
Answer: Retinol creams will not affect your tattoo signficantly. Retinol, proretinol and tretinoin products will exfoliate your skin but not cause significant change in a tattoo.
But if you're taking Accutane, Minomycin (or any other Tetracycline-related medication), or any other prescription drug for acne, you do not want to get tattooed. Prescription drugs for acne can cause skin to be hyper-sensitive. 2 Getting a tattoo can be disastrous and lead to severe pain and scarring.
Check with your doctor before using topical medicines with tretinoin. During the first 6 months of use, avoid overexposing the treated areas to sunlight, wind, or cold weather. The skin will be more prone to sunburn, dryness, or irritation, especially during the first 2 or 3 weeks.
Tretinoin Does Not “Bleach” Your Skin
Contrary to popular belief, tretinoin is not a “bleaching agent” or medicine designed specifically to lighten your skin tone. While tretinoin can even out patches of hyperpigmentation and cause a mild change in your skin tone, it doesn't affect melanin synthesis.
If you stop using the medication or are inconsistent with your treatment, any improvements you see may disappear over time. Always use the product as prescribed by your healthcare provider (Rodan, 2016).
Can I get a tattoo or microblading when I am taking Isotretinoin (Roaccutane/Accutane)? It is generally best to avoid any procedure that causes trauma to the skin while taking Isotretinoin. Therefore it is best to wait at least 3 to 6 months until after you have completed the course.
Taking acetaminophen (Tylenol) is recommended an hour before starting the tattooing process. Ibuprofen is a poor choice as it can also thin the blood and prolong bleeding time. Aspirin is even more likely to increase bleeding.
I highly recommend you discontinue using Retin-A / Tretinoin anywhere near your brows once you've had your brows microbladed. It will shorten the life of your cosmetic tattoo significantly, as it causes your skin to exfoliate more rapidly.
Retinol can be very effective in fading microblading, as well as other forms of brow tattoo, such as powder brows, ombre brows, nano brows etc.
Avoid treatments that may irritate the skin like harsh chemicals, depilatories, etc. for at least 1-2 weeks before treatment and 2 to 4 weeks after treatment. This includes products containing tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, astringents, etc.
Answer: Fading them quicker may not be the answer
You don't want to exfoliate or lighten too much though as the tattoo will lighten with time and sun exposure. Vitamin C and A are also skin lighteners and can help lighten the tattoo as well.
Retinols/Retin-A's, other anti-aging creams or serums containing acids will fade your permanent makeup prematurely even after it is healed. You must be off all Retinols/Retina-A 30 days prior to your appointment on the area that you will be getting the procedure.
Piercings – Do not get any piercings during or within 6 months of finishing the Accutane course.
If you have continued use of Accutane, Retinol, or skin-peeling acids, you may be prone to excessive bleeding due to your altered skin condition, therefore, microblading would not be a viable option for you.
