Tempted to apply your gradual tan twice a day for a deeper colour? Unfortunately, all tanning experts agree that this isn't an effective strategy. Applying too much product too quickly can result in streaking, patchiness, or an unnatural orange colour.
For a deeper shade, you may choose to reapply the product every day — especially if you notice as the tan develops that you missed a spot the previous day. For a more subtle effect, you may only need to reapply the product every other day.
Go for it! But be warned warriors, just like alcohol, pacing it is always the best way to go. The key thing with gradual tan is that it takes time to develop so if you back it up with a second coat before you've seen the end results it might just hinder the natural effect you're going for.
Apply gradual tan daily until you achieve your desired skin tone. Then reapply every few days, or more often if necessary, to maintain your tan. Avoid showering for a few hours following the application to allow the product to bind well on the skin - you can do this right before going to bed and shower in the morning.
Absolutely you could do that however unless you are seeking a very dark look i personally would continue to layer the lighter one reapplying daily. My reasoning for this is you are less likely to have issues with streaking and more likely to achieve a more natural look.
A smooth surface will help get a more even finish, so start by exfoliating your skin. Massage the lotion evenly over clean, dry skin with circular motions. Allow the Dove body lotion to absorb into your skin before getting dressed and, once you're finished, remember to wash your hands.
However, keep in mind that it's important to give your skin time to fully absorb the product before you apply another layer. For best results, we recommend waiting at least 24 hours between applications. This will give the product enough time to fully develop and prevent any streaking or unevenness.
It is easily applied, smells gorgeous and most of all, it works. My skin feels soft and the tan starts to work almost instantly. After a few hours i have a natural looking golden tan. It doesn't stain bedding either.
We generally recommend sticking to one self tanning product per application. If you do not find the colour to be as deep as you would like, you can always apply a second coat 30-60 minutes after initial application, or the following day.
Gradual tan is best applied once a day, or every few days depending on the colour you wish to achieve. It Is not recommended to apply gradual tan twice a day as this can cause the product to build up, too much product can affect how even your colour is.
The FDA requires 24 hours between tanning sessions. We recommend allowing at least 1 day in-between sessions whenever time allows.
Once applied you can wash the tan off after just 1 hour, but for a deeper longer lasting tan leave on your skin for up 8 hours. It really is personal choice. Sometimes we double coat when we want to be extra delicious, we wait half an hour after applying and then go again.
This is the important part when it comes to how to tan faster: depending on whether you're after a light, medium, or dark toned bronze, leave your self tan on for 1, 2, or 3 hours before rinsing in the shower. Your golden glow will continue to develop over the next 8 hours, leaving skin looking sensationally sunkissed.
While gradual tan is more likely to apply and fade evenly, it is still possible for your gradual tan to go patchy. It'll all depend on the quality of the gradual tan you're applying, how much you've prepared your skin before applying gradual tan, and how well you care for your new glow.
Exfoliate your skin every few days after application with a light exfoliating bodywash, focusing on areas that tend to fade quickest: underarms, neck, and knees. Exfoliation will fade your tan slightly, but this step is essential to preventing colour build-up and removing dead skin cells.

Common reasons for patchy self-tanning include having products on the skin (perfume, deodorant, oil-based moisturizers, etc.) that can cause your tan to break down and fade unevenly. So, if you're feeling less like a golden goddess and more like a patchwork quilt?
For an even, streak free tan, start at the centre of your back and slowly move outwards using long vertical strokes. This will ensure a smooth, golden glow top to bottom. Don't forget to blend the tan all over so it's flawless front to back! Happy tanning!
If you showered after just a few hours, you might notice your skin is not as tanned as you'd expected. Don't fret! Your colour will continue to develop and darken for a few hours (and a spray tan takes up to 24 hours to develop fully).
Try this. What's the secret to a natural-looking sun-kissed glow? Simply use daily and space out the applications to maintain a natural-looking glow. Remember, a little goes a long way!

It's generally safe to apply more self-tanner after washing it off, especially since you let it develop for several hours. Just make sure your skin is clean and dry before applying another layer. Keep in mind that it might deepen the color, so be cautious with the amount you use!
