CeraVe Moisturizing Cream CeraVe's moisturizing cream is a must for everyday use, regardless if you are dermaplaning. The mix of ceramides and hyaluronic acid will help restore and maintain the skin's natural barrier while retaining moisture.
Immediately After Treatment:
Use a gentle moisturizer as needed (i.e., Avene® Ciclafate Post Procedure Skin Cream). Cleanse skin with a mild cleanser (i.e., CeraVe® Foaming Facial Cleanser). Do not use heavy makeup for the first day.
Use breathable moisturizers that will absorb into your newly unclogged pores and leave your skin feeling fresh, dewy, and soft. Athré Med Spa offers Aftercare Post-Treatment Soothing Cream, which is the perfect moisturizer to use after dermaplaning, or any other skin care treatment.
Avoid using harsh skincare products.
Harsh skincare products, such as retinoids or glycolic acids, can irritate the skin after dermaplaning. If you use these products, wait at least a day or two before using them again after your treatment.
After the procedure it is recommended that you do not wash your face with any cleansers and only apply a gentle moisturizer, such as CeraVe. Feel free to splash cold water on your skin if it is feeling tight and hot, but only use your hands. No washcloths.
Wash your face with a gentle cleanser such as Cetaphil® or Cerave® for the first 3 days. Avoid use of retinoid products (tretinoin, tazarotene, adapalene) on the face for 7 days. Moisturize the face with Hyalis by Neocutis® or another mild moisturizer twice daily.
Niacinamide serums are great for balancing and soothing the skin post-dermaplaning. They can: Reduce redness and inflammation. Help regulate oil production.
If you notice breakouts after dermaplaning, it's important to understand that this can be a common occurrence due to the removal of dead skin cells and potential exposure of clogged pores.
Aquaphor is my final go-to when I dermaplane. This ointment is more multi-purpose than you think, and it's a hidden gem for dry skin! After spritzing with Thermal Water, I slather this balm all over my skin and treat it as an overnight mask.
Although SPF 30+ should already be a part of your daily skin care, after dermaplaning, SPF 30+ must be applied daily to the treated area for a minimum of two weeks. Twice daily cleanse the treated area with a post-treatment cleanser, followed by a serum or treatment cream and follow with SPF 30+ sunscreen.
How Often Should You Dermaplane? It's important not to overdo it! Dermaplaning results should last about three weeks. Going to a professional (or doing it at home) once a month is recommended.
Post-dermaplaning skin needs ample moisture, so have your gentlest, most hydrating moisturizer on hand. Look for oil-free, fragrance-free formulas with skin-replenishing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, ceramides, aloe vera, and shea butter. Apply morning and night.

After your dermaplaning treatment, you need to follow a simple skincare routine for 2 weeks. Instead of using any harsh cleaning products, use a very mild cleanser to clean your face. Also, you should apply moisturizers as well as skin serums, especially those with hyaluronic acid, after the treatment.
After your treatment, it's important that you simplify your skincare routine and limit your regimen to one that includes gentle cleansing with a mild face wash and moisturizer. Using products with potent anti-aging ingredients like AHA's, BHA's, vitamin C, and retinol can irritate and inflame your skin.
Hydrate dry skin: Apply a hydrating toner, essence, or serum before dermaplaning. Hyaluronic acid and glycerin are great lightweight, oil-free options.
We recommend using the blade on clean, dry skin for best results. When you're ready, get a firm grip on the ergonomic handle of our Facial Razor dermaplaning tool. Using your free hand, pull the skin taut and lightly position the blade against your face at a 45-degree angle.
While many rave about the immediate radiance, some experience dermaplaning regret due to unexpected side effects or unrealistic expectations.
What is the recovery like? As you have seen, your face will be red and sensitive for about a day. You will want to moisturize well. For the first day after the treatment, you'll want to use Aquaphor or some other nourishing serum that we will give you.
Skin that is pink and a bit sandy-looking is common for some clients in days 2 – 4 after the treatment. Just like any time you're kick-starting cell turnover with a treatment or skin exfoliation, your skin will be sensitive to UV rays.
