Although you can easily wash after applying Saniderm, it is important to still monitor the time you spend in the shower. Prolonged exposure to water will weaken the adhesion, so avoid soaking. As with all tattoo aftercare regulations, you should avoid submerging your tattoo in any body of water.
When you use Saniderm to heal your tattoo, you will find the process much easier. While we don't recommend taking a bath or going swimming after applying your Saniderm, taking a shower isn't an issue. If you get your Saniderm wet, it's no big deal! Saniderm stays on skin even when wet.
It's fine you can use your fingers and squish it out if you want. Saniderm and all the other products are membranes and the liquid will eventually evaporate. It won't mess your tattoo up, it won't infect you. Same thing happens to me every time I wear saniderm and have a shower.
WATERPROOF FOR CONVENIENT HEALING – Saniderm bandages are engineered to be waterproof so that you can still shower with the bandage on your new tattoo without worry.
Pick up some tegaderm from cvs or Walgreens. Layer it very well covering the tattoo. Tegaderm is water proof this will help keep it dry. Just don't submerge it for long period of time. This advice is only if you need to swim. Error on caution and keep it out of the water.
Wearing Saniderm While Showering, Swimming, and Exercising
Too much heat can separate the bandage from the skin, inflame the skin, and irritate the tattoo. For these reasons, bathing, swimming, or fully submerging a tattoo dressed in Saniderm is strongly discouraged.
Tattoos are essentially open wounds, and exposing them to water too soon can lead to bacterial infections, skin irritation, and even damage to the tattoo design. Therefore, tattoo artists recommend waiting at least 2-4 weeks before submerging your new ink in swimming pools, hot tubs, or open water.
Saniderm bandages are durable enough to maintain a regular, light exercise routine without compromising your new tattoo. However, increased perspiration, prolonged movement, or excessive friction in or around the tattooed area could weaken the bandage's adhesion, potentially compromising its seal.
By using the body's natural repairing fluids to keep the wounded area in a hydrated state, Saniderm accelerates cell recovery and therefore heals your tattoo faster. Saniderm bandages are made from high-quality materials and are composed of three primary components.
If you find the tattoo weeps into the second piece, remove it at the next 24 hour period. Then wash the tattoo, apply aftercare if needed, and apply a third piece. This third piece can be worn for up to 5 days. Saniderm should not be worn for more than 7 days total.”
In the first twenty-four hours there may be a build up of blood, ink, and/or plasma underneath the Saniderm. This is completely normal. You do not want to leave the build up for more than one day. Remove Saniderm when there is build up, clean and dry the tattooed area and re-apply.
You can shower 3-4 hours after getting a tattoo, if you have a Saniderm bandage on, however, if you have a plastic wrap wait 24 hours to unwrap your tattoo and shower. In either case, shower in cold or lukewarm water and avoid prolonged soaking or submerging your tattoo in water for 3-4 weeks.
SANIDERM AFTERCARE:
You can shower with the bandage but avoid soaking it or submerging it in water (no swimming or baths). If water gets under the bandage, remove it immediately and continue with the normal aftercare routine.
Don't worry, this is completely natural. It happens because the old skin, damaged during the tattooing process, forms a thin layer over your tattoo and masks its true appearance. In time this old skin will naturally exfoliate itself, revealing your tattoo underneath in all its vibrant glory.
The Dos. The first night is often the most difficult. It undoubtedly still aches and continues to flow a decent amount of blood, plasma, and more ink. The best course of action is to leave any healing coverings, such as second skin or saniderm, on for the first night (or the first few if it stays put).
Saniderm works by locking in your body's natural healing fluids so your tattoo stays hydrated and heals quickly and efficiently with no scabbing and reduced scarring. In addition, we engineered Saniderm to be gas permeable so your skin can breathe and get all the oxygen it needs to heal perfectly.
Most customers who have used Saniderm as directed, report their tattoo colors as even more vibrant and intact, as compared to other aftercare products. How long should I leave Saniderm on my tattoo? In general, leave Saniderm on your tattoo for at least 24 hours after application, but no longer than 7 days.
Your first night sleeping, your artist might recommend you re-wrap the tattoo with plastic wrap (like Saran Wrap) to sleep without the tattoo sticking to your sheets. This is generally for larger or solid-color tattoos. If your artist did not recommend re-wrapping, just let the tattoo stay exposed to air overnight.
After 3-5 days, remove Saniderm while in the shower. You must peel the Saniderm in order for it to come off, you may want to peel slowly. * You can shower with Saniderm on * Step 2: Wash tattoo with lukewarm water and non-scented antibacterial soap, using only your hands, do not use any scrubbers or washcloths.
Saniderm is both latex free and hypoallergenic, so allergic reactions are very rare. However, some people may have sensitive skin or allergies to adhesives. If you do experience a rash, abnormal skin irritation, or other symptoms of an allergic reaction, discontinue use and wash with mild soap.
Healing With Saniderm
Alternatively, if the fluid that collected beneath your Saniderm has dried out or has become itchy or uncomfortable, it is perfectly okay to remove the bandage and begin washing/caring for your tattoo -- even if this happens before the 3-5 day mark!
Getting your new tattoo too wet can prevent it from healing properly, and it might end up looking patchy. It's super important to keep your new tattoo clean. So having a shower is the best choice so you can wash your tattoo but not fully submerge it in water.
SANIDERM METHOD
After Saniderm is applied, leave it on for 3 - 5 days. You can work, exercise, and shower as you would normally, but do not submerge the Saniderm underwater. After you take off the bandage, wash with hypoallergenic soap and apply small amounts of unscented moisturizer.
