Avoid shaving immediately before your spray tan session. Ideally, shave 24 hours prior to allow your skin to recover and avoid any potential irritation. Exfoliate gently: If you're shaving before tanning, gently exfoliate your skin using a mild scrub or exfoliating glove.
If you are shaving, you need to shave 24 hours before any fake tan application. If for whatever reason you cannot do that, finish with cold water after shaving to close your pores. Have you ever had brown spots get stuck in your pores? This is from shaving or exfoliating right before a fake tan. Don't do this.
Remove Body Hair
However, do not remove body hair too soon before your session. When you shave or wax your skin, your pores open up. If you wax or shave right before your session, you will go in before your pores close up, and the spray tan will get into your pores and leave you with dark dots.
This is such a good question, and it makes sense as to why it is one of the most popular questions women have when it comes to self tanning or even spray tanning. Can you self tan or spray tan with hairy legs? The answer is yes!
CAN YOU WEAR SELF-TANNER AFTER A LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT? The skin that was treated will be sensitive after treatment, so we advise you to wait at least four to five days to apply any self-tanner or spray tan on the targeted area.
Hair removal cream should be used 24 hours in advance before applying fake tan.
Tanning can fade hair dye prematurely, so if longevity is something you are after, tanning is not recommended.
Self-tanning products are an easy, convenient, safe, and effective way to achieve a bald head tan. Most self-tanners contain an active tanning agent called DHA or dihydroxyacetone. This agent reacts with the proteins in the outer layer of the skin, creating a bronze/tan color.
It may not seem that way, but you can successfully spray tan people with hairy bodies. In fact, you should treat them just as you would a client with little or no body hair. They just need to make sure they exfoliate properly to ensure they'll get the best results.
To keep the drier areas from going patchy, make sure you moisturise all over and pay extra special attention to these troublesome areas. Try to leave the moisturiser to sink in for at least half an hour before you start the application stage of your fake tan routine.
The cold water will help close the pores and reduce skin inflammation. If you have time, you can soak a towel in cold water and place it on your face for a few minutes for even better results so you won't use the fateful phrase, "I get pimples after shaving" again.
Before Your Spray Tan
Before your appointment, make sure to: Exfoliate at least 4 hours before your appointment. Shower and shave at least 4 hours before your appointment. Don't moisturize right before your appointment.
Before we dive into tips on how to extend your sunless tan, you're probably wondering, “Just how long does a fake tan last?” On average, your skin retains self tanner for 5-7 days, but this period of longevity can vary based on many factors. Expired self tanning products, sensitive skin, and skin types are a few.
Avoid shaving immediately before your spray tan session. Ideally, shave 24 hours prior to allow your skin to recover and avoid any potential irritation. Exfoliate gently: If you're shaving before tanning, gently exfoliate your skin using a mild scrub or exfoliating glove.
Ensure you're applying your preferred product to clean, dry skin after showering and 24 hours post-shaving. Keep your application light and you'll be good to go. Learn more about preparing for your self tan here.
Shaving after showering
This is because the hot shower water cleanses your skin: the steam opens up your pores, flushing out the dirt that has accumulated since your last shower, and causes your hair follicles to soften - making it easier for you to enjoy a closer, more comfortable shave, with fewer passes.
Wait 24 Hours: Give your skin ample time to recover from shaving before applying the self-tanner. This waiting period allows any irritation to subside and lets your skin regain its natural balance.
Tanning lotions are fantastic for gliding across smooth skin but can be trickier to blend into a hairy chest, legs and arms. We recommend you opt for a tanning spray or mousse instead because the lighter texture is easier to buff into the skin even when applied over hairy areas.
The good news is that a thorough shampoo should remove any tanner that's unintentionally settled on your hair. If you find that there's still some discolouration present after shampooing you may need to wash your hair a second time to guarantee all the guide colour has been rinsed off.
Body hair won't interfere with your tan, so you can leave it at whatever level you feel comfortable.
The best way to fake tan, man:
Ensure beard is trimmed, or any shaving to the face is carried out. Ideally this should be done 24 hours prior to tan application, however if your beard grows quickly shaving before is still ok but the skin may feel a tad sensitive.
After extensive testing, we determined the highest rated self-tanner to be the St. Tropez Self Tan Express Bronzing Mousse. It's an airy mousse that's easy to apply and blend and leaves you with a natural-looking glow. You can also customize the depth of color based on how long you leave it on your skin.
Shave or wax at least 24 hours prior. If you need to wash your hair, do so the day before, but wash your hair first, then do your exfoliating.
It's best to limit sun exposure after dyeing your hair. UV rays can cause your new color to fade faster and may also lead to dryness and damage. Use a hat or products with UV protection to preserve your color.
You may want to book your spray tan a day or two before your trial makeup. Nail appointments ideally should be done 24 hours before your spray tan. Nails and pedicures CAN be done the day of your spray tan, but please exfoliate any lotion or residue off.
