After getting a facial filler treatment, it is recommended that you wait at least 24 to 48 hours before your resume exercise.
Exercise and fillers have a complex relationship. Right after your appointment, it's crucial that you avoid strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours. This activity increases blood flow and body temperature, worsening bruising, swelling, and discomfort. The added sweat can even increase your risk for infection!
Don't Take NSAIDs to Relieve Soreness
It's normal to experience some lingering soreness after filler injections, and pain medications can certainly provide relief. However, it's important that you take the right kind of painkiller so you don't make any bruising worse.
After your dermal filler treatment, you should remain in an upright position for 3-4 hours and avoid rubbing or applying any pressure on the treated area. This will prevent the filler from migrating to other areas.
Drink plenty of water. HA based fillers such as Juvederm work by using the water naturally stored in our tissues, by drinking plenty of water after having a dermal filler treatment it helps the filler hold its chaos and last for longer.
The filler can take several weeks to soften and settle into your skin. This means that patients won't see the ultimate results of their treatment immediately. Although individual results will vary, many people achieve the full effect within two weeks after receiving their injections.

You can resume most activities right away, but it is generally recommended that you avoid intense physical activity for the first 24-48 hours to minimize swelling and bruising. Be sure to discuss your specific recovery plan with your physician prior to scheduling your injections.
You are not allowed to smile for a few days after a lip filler. Facial expressions such as smiling, laughing, or frowning should have zero impact on your lip filler. It is actually better for you to smile and gently massage your lips, to help spread the product and produce a more natural end-result.
When is it Safe to Exercise After Botox? To ensure you get the most out of your Botox treatment, most doctors recommend refraining from exercise for 24 hours after your appointment. Light walking aside, avoid cardio, strength training, and any movements where your head ends up below your heart, including lying down.
Be Careful About Exercise
Here's one time when you'll be warned against exercising too much. Although you're usually encouraged to be active, being overly active and burning a lot of calories after you've had injections can actually speed up the rate at which those fillers wear off.
Wear Makeup and Return to Work After Filler. Restylane lip filler injections don't require any downtime. You may have some soreness and swelling for a few days or even up to a week or more. However, that shouldn't prevent you from returning to work directly after your hyaluronic acid injections.
Avoid itching, or picking around the injection site. Avoid applying intense heat to the treated area, that includes hot tubs, saunas, sunbathing or tanning. Don't drink alcohol the day of treatment, and try to avoid it for 2 days after. Avoid exercising for 2 days or until swelling subsides.
Avoid excessive touching or massaging the treated areas for about 6 hours after the injections. The treated areas can be washed with a gentle cleanser such as Cetaphil® Cerave® or Dove® unscented.
Filler Warnings
Filler fatigue is caused by a decrease in skin elasticity, fibrosis, and the creation of an unnaturally wide face. All of these changes can occur not only because of excessive use of collagen-inducing fillers such as calcium hydroxyapatite but also owing to the overuse of hyaluronic acid.
Make sure to sleep on your back with your head elevated using 2 pillows for 3 nights-this will ensure that the newly injected filler stays in place. Another option would be to use a wrap around neck pillow to stabilize your head.
We advise our patients to wait 2 weeks after their filler injection to allow time for any swelling to subside and for the filler to “settle” into the skin. That said, if you notice any severe swelling or bruising, contact your surgeon or medical provider immediately.
Dermal filler doesn't 'normally', move after treatment. Immediately after treatment, in certain areas of the face, I do gently massage the area/s that were injected to help mold the product and prevent lumps. It does take about 2 weeks for the filler to settle and integrate into the tissue.
General Care After Fillers:
Bruising and Swelling – gently ice for the first 24 hours. 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off – five times a day. Extra icing can definitely help. Headache Pain or Pain at Injection Site – Tylenol or Motrin usually is all that is required.
Dermal fillers are instant, so you can see a visible result immediately after injection. It takes up to 4 weeks for the filler to fully integrate into the tissue and some fillers are more cohesive than others.
Try to sleep on your back for 24-48 hours after filler injections. After that, you can safely sleep on your side without worrying that the filler will move with gravity.
Although extremely rare, dermal fillers are able to migrate within the skin if consistent and adequate pressure is applied to them. For this reason, we advise patients not to get a facial, massage (on the treated skin), or microdermabrasion for the first two weeks following their filler injections.
You can resume all normal activities the next day. Avoid facials or saunas for 4 hours after your treatment. Feel free to shower and go about most other regular daily activities.
Swelling subsides, typically, within a few days. It's most apparent 24 to 72 hours after treatment before starting to subside gradually. Very occasionally, swelling can last from several days to four weeks.
