2023 will see us embracing the much fuller, darker brows in a soft shape, adding a modern twist to a classic brow look. The trend has seen 14.3 million views on TikTok, and has seen a 93% increase in searches on Pinterest since mid-year.
In 2022, tweezers are back – and so is the skinny eyebrow, last seen in Gen Z's favourite Y2K era. The first death knell of the big brow came back in 2018, when Rihanna appeared on the cover of British Vogue with eyebrows worthy of the original skinny-eyebrow icon, Marlene Dietrich.
Brow Shape Trends
The past few decades have been largely dedicated to arched brows — the lifting effect is at once face-flattering and more than a little foxy. But in 2023, an exciting new contender enters the ring: the straight-across brow.
As far as previous eyebrow trends go, all the experts agree that fluffy brows are here to stay. Zahoui stipulates, however, that it's not a stiff or shiny brow. “A much more natural, less defined look,” she says. “Brushed up with skin coming through and minimal use of pencils and powders.”
Just like your hair, brows can thin with age, making you look older than you are. To disguise this, use a brow powder to fill patchy spots, focusing on bringing the fullness back to your brows.
They believe thicker eyebrows allow for more clear expressions and, most importantly, the romantic interest someone is having.
“Thin brows can tend to make you look older, and can give a harsh or unflattering look to any face,” says Ursula Cervellone from Feather Brow Couture. “Making sure your brows have more depth and thickness than a thin pencil line will help any face appear younger.
Here's the good news: Like the resurgence of other '90s trends, the thin brow is getting a 2022 update. “The thin brows in the past weren't just thin—they were actually bad brows,” says celebrity eyebrow stylist Joey Healy.
Consider eyebrow standards throughout the past century: in the 1920s and 1930s, thin eyebrows were all the rage. They thickened back out throughout the '40s and until the '90s, when society reverted to the thin, rounded shape and stuck with that until the 2010s.
They make thin faces look fuller and more harmonious. They're also great for women with rounder face shapes. Moreover, thick eyebrows are perfect for women (and men) with more prominent facial features such as solid jaws and fuller cheekbones.

2023 Style Trend: Oversized Everything
With oversized blazers and extra-large shirts trending on the TikTok For You page every other day, Rayburn predicts the oversized trend will only grow in strength next year, with even the bottom of our pants expanding.
But it seems the goalposts have moved once again as trendsetting celebrities have started a new craze - eyebrows that you can't see at all. The 'no eyebrows' trend has been displayed by A listers from Nicola Peltz to Kylie Jenner in recent months, who have posed with whitened, or perhaps even bleached, brows in photos.
Maybe there's some science behind the dramatic eyebrow trend after all. A new study finds that facial features, like lips and eyebrows, tend to stand out less as people get older. Because of that, the authors say, people perceive faces with more contrast as younger.

YOUR BROWS SHOULD BE DARKER
We hate to break it to you, but if you thought that your brows should perfectly match your hair, you might want to think again. In fact, your eyebrows should actually be darker than your hair color—unless your tresses are pitch black. This is what looks the most natural.

Javid Sadr, who worked on the Perception study with other researchers, told Yahoo Health that the process of waxing, tweezing, and shaping one's eyebrows to look thinner enhances gender differences between men and women. This makes a woman appear more feminine.
