White eyeliner is a makeup artist trick for brightening up the face and making your eyes look bigger and more awake, particularly when used on the bottom waterline. When using a dark color on the bottom lash line, it can make eyes look smaller and drawn-down, but white has the reverse effect.
White liner on the lower lash line will create the illusion of being more awake as it emphasizes the whites of your eyes, consequently allowing you to look younger and more vibrant.
“White eyeliner makes the eyes look bigger and brighter,” says Ashley Gray, a professional makeup artist and the owner of Ashthetics Skincare. “Applying it to your lower waterline or doing a cat eye with a white eyeliner can really make the eyes pop. It also provides '60s vibe to makeup looks as well.”
Apply White or Flesh-toned Eyeliner on Your Waterline.
It closes up your eye to a great extent and makes it appear smaller. However, if you use black eyeliner under the lower lash line and use a white or flesh-toned eyeliner on the waterline, it will open up the eye and create the illusion of bigger eyes.
Also known as the “four dots eye trick” or “four dots eye thing,” the trend involves applying four dots of white eyeliner on the inner and outer corners of your eyes, as well as above and below the center of your eye, to create a hypnotic love spell of the sorts.

The final verdict? This actually works. Mastering the hack was simple. Move over classic cat eye, because 2021 is ditching the overdone eyeliner look. If the whole world can agree on just one thing, it's this: the cat eye is overdone. The winged eyeliner trend has been with us for years; the look is tired and deserves to take a break in 2021.
White Inner Corners
Start by tracing the inner corner of your eye with a thin line of white eyeliner. For extra brightening drama, smudge it out with a tiny brush underneath the inner corner to give off a brighter look.
“You can put white eyeliner on the waterline to help make your eyes appear bigger,” says makeup artist Delina Medhin. She also recommends using a nude liner for deeper skin tones or a more everyday look on fairer skin tones, “It's all about the color payoff," she says.

We can all agree that eyeliner is not the easiest makeup product to apply, and it's likely to end up everywhere but your lashline.
Instead, use a sharp, soft eyeliner pencil and apply dots of color all the way down your eyelid. Then, use a cotton swab or an angled eyeliner brush to smudge the liner, giving you a soft, even line. You can also use black or dark brown eyeshadow for this. You can do this for your top and bottom lashes.
DON'T wear mascara on your lower lashes. Playing up your lower lashes can make your eyes look droopy and draw attention to dark circles. It makes the eyes look older and accentuates the under eye wrinkles.
Despite what you may have heard, it's not the best idea to apply dark eyeliner to your bottom waterline because this can actually shrink the appearance of your eyes.
Keep Your Lines Thin. Keep eyeliner on the lower lid thin and inconspicuous. The obvious pitfall of bottom eyeliner is that it can create the impression of dark circles beneath your eyes, which no one wants.
Among classic fall makeup trends like rusty shadow and berry lips are an endless array of out-there looks like vintage liner and TikTok-inspired techniques. Mali Thomas, Bobbi Brown global artist in residence, agrees. “Fall 2021 is all about bold lip colors and statement eyes,” she says.
"The best way to apply is by drawing a thicker line in the areas you would like to highlight," she instructs. To blend, use a concealer brush like the Vasanti Cosmetics Concealer Buffer Undereye Setting Brush ($23) for a smooth, well-blended look."
4. Brighten it Up: The white eyeliner pencil works as a great highlighter for the inner corner of the eyes. Apply it to the inner corner of your eyes and smudge it with the help of your ring finger. It would instantly brighten your eyes up and give you a more awake look.
Make that eyeliner work double duty. "First, apply your favorite tinted moisturizer or foundation to even out skin. While contouring, the three areas you want to focus on are your cheeks, your nose, and underneath the chin.
